"Old Knives"

A Union Cutlery office knife from 1911-1951 and an Imperial 3 blade senator from 1935-1945. I like the cute little bolsters on both.

Two beauties Stuart.

I believe the knives I posted with the steel pins are probably the oldest (?).

I know the pressed stag one is among the oldest, as it seems that material occurred from early European markets and has not had verified usage in American manufacturing companies from any source I can find. There may be some out there ,but as yet no one has identified one.

Lyle- what a great show of Henckels! trying to find one Farmers Jack from them would be hard enough- let alone.....

Duckdog- Oh my ....my friend those two are stunners- I cant tell you enough just how nice the Bottom one is- Beautiful Blade selection- each Knife a Treasure!

Nice Schrade Cut on the previous page, v_p!!

That's a holy horde of Henckels, Lyle!! Quite a variety of handles and ages!!
I like that you do not discount the lowly relics, like that snapped-blade specimen, as they all have tales to tell!!

Interesting pens Stuart - very cool!
could you give us closeups of the tang stamps on that Union Cut??

I agree that some of our "back corner of the box" knives deserve a day in the sun. I may have some broken blade examples to post soon, as they are just pretty interesting knives, "wounds" notwithstanding.

It I get a chance, I'll snap some close-ups of the Union tang and post. It is UNION over CUT.CO. over OLEAN N.Y.

Herder - Super nice FJ .. and the Indian Trail or Worm Groove bone is one of my favorites on knives for sure.. I imagine nickel silver liners are indeed more rare on what would be considered a hard working knife…

VP - Sweet Schrade pen  ... Schrade no doubt had some great jigging on their bone handles!

Lyle – you are the FJ King and those are indeed all lovely knives from your amazing collection .. As I say - I can’t find any FJs to my liking from any cutleries I like or any for that matter as you have them all my friend!!

Stuart – great looking Union and Imperial… the bone is no doubt awesome on those too but the Union is killer  – and there is just something about worm groove bone that is irresistible! Also I have never seen a pen knife with a spey blade – sweeeeet!!

Speaking of knives that have a story and are abit worn - here is a Miller Bros MOP sleeveboard to share... Despite the staining and crack in MOP near end pin on mark side this knife has a dark etch and the blades are the hardest snapping of any pen knife that I own...

The MOP on pile side is flawless :) -

wlfryjr wlfryjr Campbellclanman Campbellclanman waynorth waynorth L LongBlade Thanks for the kind cutlery compliments. In adition to its jigging, the slimness of the Union office knife make it a pleasure to carry and show to my buddies over drinks on a cold afternoon (as I am doing today). Wayne, I didn't get a chance to snap another pic of the Union's tang before I headed (hastily) to join my friends at our favorite gathering spot, but I did "blow up" a portion of the pic I showed of that knife earlier. Does this help?

That’s a terrific etch on that lovely Miller Bros Lee.

Yes, Charlie my friend they all have information. Although it’s like the Bible says , “ The poor man’s wisdom is despised .”

Huh!!! I resemble that remark, Lyle!!
:D

Wonderful etch, Lee!

Thanks for the close-up, Stuart!:)

Thanks Stuart, Lyle and Charlie  ... (I just noticed I had the same photo of the etch twice  - the pile side is now there as intended ;))...

veitsi_poika veitsi_poika I am partial to those bolsters. Very knice knife.

Thanks Stuart  The pictures you posted earlier of the Imperial and Union knives with the "cute little bolsters" reminded me of this one :) The bone on that Union is amazing but the Imperial is pretty impressive too. I didn't realize until recently that Imperial actually had some nice bone knives too, most of the time you just see the Hammer Brand cells. I have an easy open Imperial with bone that I'm going to post sometime soon ;)
