A Clauss Jack, this being the one that makes you think Case Manufacture...

Great to see these uncommon models.
Your "thoughts" are always spot on my friend, not many would recognize the similarities between Boker and Remington without the buried history behind them.

And for a change of pace... a couple of old Imperial shell cell's with psychedelic colors :D I'm not sure about the age on the first one, I haven't seen the "IMPERIAL" over "USA" stamp in any of the tang charts. The patent numbers put it in the 1942 range which makes sense since many manufacturers started adding USA to their tangs following WWII. The second knife is a c.1945-55. They may have been cheaper but these two knifes snap like rat traps :thumbsup:

Here is a Clauss I got recently. 1930’s? I don’t know much about Clauss knives and it’s the only one I have. Love the swedges on the main blade. I’ve read that Queen City, Robeson, Challenge and maybe Case made knives for Clauss. Wondering who made this one, I hope you guys chime in. Sorry for the poor lighting, the sun was setting and was rushing to take some pics.

If I were to choose from the list of manufacturers in your post, I would say that this was made by Challenge.

These are definitely Case products. The only Clauss I have is a Case-made peanut.

I second this is probably a Challenge made one. Although my experience is very limited, it has the exact same shield as my Challenge harness jack. And the color of the bone is pretty similar to the pile side of mine. The mark side of mine has faded.

Herder - Thank you my friend for your kind comments. I am usually miles off

Veitsi- No Knife collection would be complete without the good old Imperial EO’s ;)
A great pair of far out Coloured Knives there- love that Hammet Brand Cattle Knife! Now that’s just cool

Thank you Lambertiana - Paul and I were talking about our Clauss Knives - he mentioned that he heard from someone had written that if you turn the shield over Case would be Stamped- maybe so but yes we are extremely certain that these are Case manufactured.

Kai - I need to check my Challenge Harness Jacks and Jacks and I would like to compare pin placements, Bone etc but from memory I have never seen a Chalkenge with such a heavily cut Swedge as your beautiful knife- that Pile side Swedge on the Main is massive and I doubt Challenge - or should I say the challenges that I own from an era just inside 100 years old certainly do not have heavily Swedge Blades as such - Empire did as well as a few other oldies- and I am sure your Clauss Stamp is older? ( than mine )
Interesting!

I’m not really into celluloid covers but that is a cool one. Psychedelic for sure like you mentioned. I’d like a surfboard in that swirl of colors.

L lambertiana Misplaced Hillbilly Misplaced Hillbilly Thanks for chiming in, I always like to hear and learn from you knowledgeable folks.

Campbellclanman Campbellclanman I need to do some more research myself, can’t seem to find much about Clauss. But I do find most of the answers to my knife questions on on this forum, there are definitely quite a few human knife encyclopedias on here! Yes I love the gnarly swedge on the main blade, I knew right away I had to buy that knife when I saw the swedge.

Patented by Seymour Alvord, for Empire Knife in 1906!!
Empire was huge over the turn of the century, making knives for many companies.
I remembered waynorth giving me this info earlier in the thread about my Challenge harness jack, in regards to the patent number on the punch. So very probably my Challenge was made by Empire, so maybe your Clauss to.

More I look at these awesome knives, the more I think the top one looks like raw beef, and the second reminds me of bacon. Maybe I'm just hungry, :p
