"Old Knives"

Nice saber grind spear blade on that Challenge John! Beauty knife!
Those office knives are cool! I have a friend with a collection of them; I'll try and score a picture.

Been awhile since I found something worth posting.....

When you hold that pruning knife in the traditional pruning grip, with the blade toward you, the rougher, gnarlier stag is under your fingertips, for grip, and the smoother side lays higher on your fingers and palm, for comfort! Try it!!
Bernie Levine pointed that out to me - credit where it's due.
Nice example Todd A.
Of course, Case and others put the smoother stag on the mark side of their knives also, but I think the reason is to make it easier to set a shield.

A friend brought this by for me to see. Nice XX era muskrat. Terrible picture, but very clean folder. A few slight rub marks, but like new otherwise.

Nice knives being added! Joe the blades on that knife are nice!

Cute lit'l Remington R4373 with a two-piece can-opener and a nicely blued punch. I've always had a soft spot for these petite utility patterns.

When long-pull and swage collide!

It seems that I saw some of those beauties just recently on the Bay. Matter of fact I probably assisted in "jacking up" the price here and there.

How 'bout this? (stolen pics, please forgive)

Here is another,I don't own,but am just getting around to posting.

"3 1/4" closed, heavily sharpened and carried, long pull cut through tang, extended spring. Approx. 1890 - 1920. Absolutely nothing here touches your pocket but smooth, rounded ivory. Literally a folding scalpel."

Wow, that ivory is like butter. Love that color.

Here are a couple of Jacks. The first is a Miller Bros. Harness Jack, with an Empire style punch. I suspect Empire made the knife for M.B.

The second knife is a Hoffritz Jack, with nice Peachseed bone handles, and looking very much like a product of the Schrade Cutlery Co.

This knife suffers from PDD (post Dremelization Disorder), which is infinitely uglier than a little heavy patina. You know, they shouldn't sell Dremel tools to just anyone!:grumpy:
Still, the scars are fortunately not too deep, and the blade is near full profile.

Goin' for 100 pages!!

Qouted from it's owner:

"Late 1800's, 3 1/4" closed, well figured and mellowed ivory hafts, unsharpened and unused. I liked the elongated ricasso more than I disliked the pin cracks. Nice blade you can choke up on if you need some extra muscle or additional control"

I really like this Corn Knife, Vince. Great find. :)

This Corn Knife was made for the removal of the Corn's on ones feet, not the vegetable.

Probably explains the elongated ricasso as the previous owner explained for choking up on the knife.

No one else wanted this well-loved little "jack knife marbelized grip" on eBay, so it came to me for the price of a shiny new Rough Rider.:D A 3" pen knife by Walden Knife Co. NY, 1870-1923, tortoise shell scales. Back spring is flush in open, half stop and closed positions.
