"Old Knives"

Real nice Hatch, Augie!!
That is a great Schrade EJ, Lloyd!!
Did you find that one at the Oregon Show??

Charlie, Augie, Lloyd, Kevin and all showing such fine vintage cutlery, thank you:thumbsup:

A fantastic old Shapleigh Diamond Edge Jack with caplifter. Made by Schrade in the 30's with well worn peachseed covers. Solid blades with lifelong patina. Was fortunate to buy this one from Eric:thumbsup:

Great old Shapleigh, Paul, and I love that long cap lifter/screwdriver.
I'm kind of surprised that cap lifters weren't more common on old knives.

Amazing Knives- Going back to Herders gorgeous example- Wow- it looks as though that Shield was shared around a lot in the first half aof the 20th Century- Challenge comes to mind quickly, I think I may have seen a Camillus Congress with the same shield- and - oh here we go _ when I iwas looking at the differences of Challenge / Empire HJ's I think I spied some Schrades with that shield?
Stunning Knife again my friend.

Augie that grouping of Jombo's- Wow- and yes you are right the Big boys dont come out much these days, cant be blamed for holding onto knives like that- thats for sure!

Charlie.... I totally blame you for when I need my Knees replaced- every time you share some of your splendid collection- My knees kinda buckle! Those two Napanoch Wilberts I love seeing each time!

Lloyd- Wow! my friend you have an outstanding collection and I just know every time you post- that the example is going to be a great one!
That Schrade Cut Co. is drop dead gorgeous, actually -when Herder posted his lovely Napanoch just above I thought there were similarities with the early Schrade big Jacks - the Swage work on the clip- the shape of the Clip etc - like yours!
That Pic Bone on that Schrade is something I find doesnt get mentioned too much- as the Peachseed seems to always overwhelm us - and we cant be blamed for that- but I sort of see early Schrade Peach seed like this... The Pic Bone and the early Peachseed - (the non elongated interweaving type -Oh man I challenge you all to try and describe Peachseed! )
Then you have the later ever popular Peachseed elongated type.

I personally think that Lloyd- your example there ( which I have seen described as Peach seed before but I disagree- that is real Pic Bone ) is outstanding- absolutely Beautiful Bone- well hey the whole Knife is stunning theres no doubt about that - but Oh that Bone!!!

Paul matey- what a great score from Eric! a real early Caplifter Shapliegh !!!! How cool is that! Well done my friend- Oh and hide that one when I am over!;)

Steve - cool Kuymaster- man those guys made some real neat Knives! that one there has lifetimes of use ahead my friend!

Nice Stockmen, herder and SteveC!!:)
Each has its own type of beauty!!
We are fortunate to be able to own several beautiful knives! I wonder how many people owned more than one (or two) back when these were made??!!o_O

Thanks Duncan—appreciate your kind comments! The pick bone is what drew me to this knife immediately. I was scanning the dealers voluminous vintage knife offerings inside his glasss display cases. You know how you do a quick once over and then you begin to be drawn to certain knives, well this one immediately caught my eye like a blinking strobe light. This pick bone is an age marker for sure of early Schrades and NYKC Knives for that matter. The pick bone on these is very similar. I have a couple of NYKC folders and some NYKC/Schrade contract knives that have this same kind of pick bone.

Herder!!!!! That Stockman!!! simply beautiful my friend- what a gorgeous Knife! How is that for amazing Swage work running right back to the rear of that lovely Matchstrike, and that Bone!!!
Herder- any idea of Maker- Napanoch again? or....

I would have liked to be standing beside you Lloyd when looking through that cabinet- seeing a friend pounce on something is great to watch!

Charlie- yeah...imagine that...just imagine people like us who usually carry a couple and have a few at home - lets say the year 1925.....whoa!... it would be good sitting around the table enjoying a Lager and asking the question "ok..... whats the carry today lads?"

I did a "Buy it Now" for one of those "junk drawer" sales that had 4 knives for $30... well it had this little gem in there along with an almost mint Schrade Walden 825. This is an awesome Boker peanut frame... very cool knife! According to my "Ray & Punchard" Boker guide... this one dates from 1914 to 1962. Maybe someone knowledgeable on Boker's can weigh in on a more precise date... (hint hint wink wink H herder ) ;););) :D

As Lloyd knows, I have gazed through the glass doors on that man's cases many times!! He is one of the major attractions at the Oregon show!! I have gotten at least a dozen killer knives from those cases!! Hopefully you will meet him in 2020, Duncan!!

Nice older Boker Kevin.

Charlie- already written down my friend, already written down :D

I am a bit worried though - as I can see it now...( picture the scene - Duncan being greeted upon arriving back from Oregon by Sue at Airport.....
"Oh my goodness Duncan... how many knives did you buy??? " as I gently place the large, bulging sack on the ground " Umm Honey" I say....about the House".........

Beeeaaauuutiiiffuuuuuulllll oldies everyone!! Every single one is gorgeous, I can’t stop drooling over them!
I was going to comment that we really are spoiled in this thread... thank you everyone for taking the time to actually get pictures and post them here because I'm sure I'm not alone in saying that your efforts are greatly appreciated :D:thumbsup: It's a historic picture book with knowledge added in the text. 834 Pages of GOLD! ;)

Congrats, you got a couple good ones. I'm sometimes tempted by those package deals, but usually there's only one in the group I'm interested in, and it doesn't seem worth it. Is yours Delrin or bone? That might narrow the time frame a bit. I think mine is bone, but I'd have to get out a loupe in daylight to check.

My feelings exactly. I may not have much to post in here but I've read every page and like you say - can't put a value on this thread

Does yours have a number on it? Mine has 9903 which the Boker book confirms it is jigged bone w/ the dates I mentioned. Yours certainly looks similar on the mark side
