Is it just me or has the collectability (demand) for old pivot umnumzaans, especially the Wilson Combat edition, skyrocketed. You just can't find them, at "any" price. When you see them for sale they usually get grabbed within minutes.

So, do people actively collect them? Anybody have multiples of them in their collection or just one for their collection?

I have 4 of the Old pivot Umnumzaans and looking for a complete collection when I come across them.
Currently looking for the one in my sig line and have a WTB ad in the exchange.
I do have a NIB Old pivot Wilson Combat :D

I have all normal blade OP Zaans, but have 4 of the 5 variants out there. I also have a lefty.

I had an OP Umnumzaan Startac, it was awesome. Also had an OP Umnum Tanto. Sold both off and now I only have a traditional OP Umnum with Southard backspacer

I am on the hunt for one too. I saw a non-wilson combat original pivot listed for around $600 on another forum. Should the wilson combat be much more or about the same? I've been saving for a mammoth bone annual should one come up, so I might have to pass on the startac if they have gotten too crazy!

I have two but didn't really set out to collect them. They were both pretty well priced last year so I picked them up. One is a 2010, pre "Idaho Made" and the other is a 2012 transitional model with the plain overtravel stop and extended lock bar flange for easier access. I have no plans to sell either. I think the original pivot made these knives aesthetically and don't have any interest in the newer ones.

I like them better in the hand as well, as I find the pivot very comfortable to "pinch" between my thumb and index finger.

I have 2 OP. I use 1 quite often. The other is a 'one of''. It started out as a 09' TNK tanto. I screwed up the convex tip sharpening it.
Richard j on BF changed the tanto into a drop point with a very hd tip. The blade is about .20 shorter than a normal Zaan blade.

Can you post a picture of the backside of the old pivot wilson combat one? I am looking to buy one but I saw a high quality counterfeit posted on these forums and want to make sure I know what a real one looks like. I'm curious about the backside of the knife.

Sure! On the last image of the lockbar relief, there is a shadow at the back of the hump. Its a cut I have not seen on a counterfeit yet, but it's on all the authentics.

Thanks so much! I'm not familiar the technical aspects of the knife such as "lock bar relief." Can you put a little red annotation or something pointing to it? You seem to know what you're talking about in great detail! That's so awesome! Hopefully someday I'll be as knowledgable as you are!

It's very faint, but you can follow the arrows and see it.
It's much easier to see that it's a separate contour on the CNC mill when the scale is taken down and viewed from the inside.

If you look at this video for a few seconds where I linked to it, you can see the the machined portion within the lock bar cutout bhyde is talking about.
  • The lock bar cutout is the U-shaped portion with the ridge in the middle that extends across the width of the lock bar.
  • The machined portion bhyde is talking about is within that area. It's the rectangular shape that sits just to the left of the alpha-numeric date code.

Edit: Here's a screenshot from the video that might better display the area in question. It's highlighted in red.

Thanks for the video! I just took apart my sebenza and see what you're talking about now! So this tiny detail isn't in any counterfeits to date?

I read some other counterfeit details such as incorrect markings and torx screws. I'd love to become a pro at it, so in case I run across a deal of a CRK at a pawn shop or something, I can tell if it's real or not.

I just went through all of my CRKs ranging from a 1999 large NICA 400 Regular to a 2015 large Starbenza 2016 Small Inkosi. The only one that doesn't have that little machined area is the large NICA 400 Regular with 1999 date code handles. I know it's not fake though because it just came back from factory service. The small NICA 400 Regular with 2000 date code handles does have it.

I guess it was pretty quick for you to do, since you have all the CRKs in a pelican case together! :)
