Here's the pics from the story I put in the Dog Father Abuse thread...I am sorry for the brain fart guys, but here's the pics of the test and the Busse failure. I will always give a knife 2 chances, lets see what happens next time. So you guys don't have to go search for the long story...I pitted my old choppers against a Swamp Rat and Dog Father, the new guys dropped their shorts...I was really suprised, but it happened, so I'm putting it in here for you guys to see. Sorry HOGS, but I swear, I did nothing different to any of these knives.

The Cold Steel was actually my best performer, it sliced through the wood in stead of just hacking. The Gerber did pretty good, and it is my favorite knife, not just because of performance, because I always wanted one as a kid. The Swamp Rat did awesome too, but the Dog Father failure cost the new guys the game. I inspected the wood at the failure, and in the wood, was the piece of the blade, just as it came out of the edge. I looked for any foreign bodies ( metal, stone) and came up with just plane old wood. A RAT-7 D2, Gerber Bowie, Cold Steel Carbon V trailmaster, and Swamp Rat Battle Rat had just chopped through the same tree, 5" at a time. I have no choice but to say this test, was a wussy test, more for fun than anything. I thought I would be testing how fast they cut and how deep, and I really thought I could come back and brag about my newest edition. Sorry Charlie, this sucker broke! After 1 minute of chopping. I would laugh if I hadn't just chucked $200 bucks out for it. Anyways guys, I know that this is probubly a one time thing, but like I said, it happened. Gene:confused:

Whoa that's interesting. Perhaps a bad heat treat on that one. The Busse family of companies seems to have amazing warranties though, so I would guess that they will replace it.

Yeah, I havn't heard from them yet, but it seems as though they are good at taking care of there customers, I plan on whooping on the next one. I like to know if I can take a product out in the wild places and bet my ass on it.

That was a fluke I am sure. The DF should be head and shoulders above those weaker and cheaper steel bowies. I had several Gerber Bowies and not one of them was worth it's sale price. The CS TM and Recon series aren't either. So don't worry, your next DF should spank them.

OUCH that hurts. How did the RAT-7 in D2 do? i have one in carbon and it chops pretty good for a 7incher

it did fine, it took a lot longer to go through the tree than the others, but I think that the lighter weight, make s it a sure thing lin the woods. As a matter of fact, the edge was till pretty sharp after the test.

I think its worth noting that it looks like you were chopping through a knot, wich is the most "knife unfreindly" area besides chopping the roots straight through the ground.

That definitely should not have happened regardless. I have no idea what the performance is like on the s77 scrap yard uses, so any suggestions I have about changing the edge geometry to increase its chopping performance would have to be taken with a grain of salt.

Gene,

Obviously this failure is not only only unexpected, it is unacceptable. We can't control the quality of the steel during its manufacture, although we do try, and it appears as though that chip might have been caused by an air pocket or defect in the steel. We have subjected the Dogs to enormous abuse and have no reason to doubt their performance abilities.

Please do not condemn the entire Scrap Yard line. Your knife is covered by our warranty. No questions asked.

We apologize for the inconvenience and are certain that your replacement blade will perform as you expected.

Always great customer service from the Busse line of knife companies . I dont own a Dogfather yet but I do own a scrapper and after beating the living hell out of it I am shocked at how well it holds up.

fret not. The warranty is why we buy them and here is the other reason.

Radiused transitions on the Busses family knives and square transition on the COLD STEEL

And this is what happens to COLD STEEL when you use it

Thats not a bad idea. The handled piece could probably be reground and used to cut roots or something. I was disappointed at the time though; the CS khuk worked very well while it worked, I was glad I had it during the first round of hurricanes 3 seasons gone now. But when it decided on quitting it really quit!

So for the second, third, and fourth rounds I was glad I had the NO!

Thanks for the reply, I really have to agree, It simply has to be that I'm unlucky as all get out. If you knew me this would make sense, like the song says " if it wasn't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all". So no worries about any Brand Hating. I plan on buying more from you guys. I emailed warrantees, at Scrapyard, and will just follow the instructions sent to me. Thanks for the comments and thanks guys for the pics of CS failures. Yeah, thats a real failure, I could have kept on keeping on in a real world survival situation with the Dog Father.

is that the thin CS or the 5/16 version??
I have always been interested in the 5/16 version

its the ltc khukri, the 5/16th version.

my buddy has the machete version. It is a much better tool and lasted a lot longer than the ltc I broke. and at something like 25% of the price.
