old spyderco's need work

Even though I do not know Sal personally, I am pretty intimate about the way he does business through experience of mutual friends that have done business with him in producing things to go with special runs of knives. All I can say is that if every knife company had the integrity and outright kindness (even in business matters) that I know Sal practices our little world would be better than it is.

To give his detractors any major credence other than an example of not being able to please everyone all the time would be a great disservice to the philosophy in which Spyderco conducts it's business. Thankfully most of us see the +90% good that we enjoy from the people in this knife world, then there are the few that point out the bad which sticks out like a sore thumb in our world or constantly attempt to put a negative spin on much of what is a myopic view of things at best.

That was very well said!

Sure don't listen to me, but that doesn't make me wrong.
What is more helpful, contacting Spyderco to discuss what can be done, or reading your exaggerated and often outright incorrect negativity?

Why do you pop up every time somebody mentions an older model? To attempt to upset them and potentially take a customer from a good company over an issue that is years buried? It simply isn't worth hearing and isn't helpful to anyone. It's outright childish, in fact.

I've had a very poor warranty experience with a major manufacturer that left me feeling a bit mistreated and let down. It happens. Trying to bring the company down every chance I get is completely pointless and a waste of everybody's time.

I said two things. On one point, Mr. Glesser indicated that I was correct:

"As Mr. Brownshoe mentioned, we did change our policy some years ago."

On the second point about not stocking replacement parts for older models, this is well known.

These are facts, not opinion.

............according to my wife and three grand-daughters that live with us, men are to be presumed guilty.....particularly when their thoughts remain unspoken or unheard. Hence, I am wrong even when silent in the forest.....so I am frequently reminded ! ;)

PS...just bought a new G-10 Byrd Flight...love it ! I can see that lots of work and thought went into it. Congratulations to Spyderco on another fine knife !

- regards to all !

My wife just said, "yes always"

Seriously, if Spyderco can't fix you up there still may be hope.

There are always options.

So, just curious. When I restore my old 50 Chevy Pickups and have trouble finding a part should I be angry at Chevy then? How dare they no longer stock the parts I need for my drum brakes, my pull out throttle and choke or my head liner! The nerve!

No you shouldn't expect Chevy to keep parts for a 57 year old car.

However, when your car is new, and for the next few years you do expect them to stock parts.

Per what I was told by Spyderco CS, spyderco can obtain parts for current US production, but not for discontinued or OCONUS knives. Other companies do stock parts, a friend just had a blade replaced this year on an Benchmade model that's been discontinued since at least 2000.

Just this weekend I was in a hardware store. They still had for sale a Jot Singh Khlasa. Brand new with box, papers and the old original warranty.

However, Spyderco doesn't honor this warranty, since they changed it and per past posts on this forum Spyderco won't replace Jots like they used to. This is significant, because this particular Jot, like most of the others, suffers from design flaws and poor workmanship.

From an engineering standpoint everything has flaws. Some less, some more, eh brownshoe? Despite it's flaws I'd say the Khlasa has more fans around this forum than you do. Joe
