Old Teeth! The Beauty of Creation!

Jack...Jack...Jackpot!!!:eek::eek::D

I'll try and get some better pics later, the grain of the ivory on the razor is particularly nice, if I can capture it. The shoehorn/KFS, I'm not entirely sure about.

Thanks a lot Lyle. I'll have to apologise in advance for the pics I'm going to post, it's dark here now, and my point-and-shoot camera seems to think it knows where I want to focus better than I do! Also the details I'm trying to photograph I can only see with a magnifying glass anyway!

Here's the Quill Knife anyway. Any help with the tang stamp would be appreciated. I'm guessing that the first letter of the top row is probably V. The bottom line looks to be M & S.

A nice haul Jack and thanks for the quick turnaround. Interestingly, I picked up 2 shoe-horns the other day. The quill knife is lovely.

Here's an old Rawson whittler I picked up the other day. It's the only ivory piece in my collection but one of the prettier whittlers I've acquired.

Lovely Whittler

Hope it's OK for me to post these pics here as per my post above. They're intended to show the ivory rather than the razor, which has no tang stamp, but came in an Express Razor box, a trademark of William Rodgers. If you click on the pics you should be able to zoom in, though I'm afraid my photos don't do the ivory justice.

Fabulous pieces...just love em both, Jack! The quill knife has some really nice extras on it. The razor was a great find and that ivory is creamy:thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks my friend :)

Chief, those are beautiful and an interesting study in contrasts because they are all the same model (with exception of the lockback). Thanks for the photos.

Jack Black, lots of great ivory there. I like that Quill knife--unusual to see blades so much shorter than handles in most knives. I think most makers try to maximize blade length. Shaping a quill must require minimal steel, but lots of handle to grab for fine control over the steel. The Case quill knife is similar. Also, lots of great grain in that razor.

67nick--great example of a whittler, and interesting to see such a premium handle material on a knife intended for carving wood.

So many beautiful knives, thanks all.
Jack Black, perhaps your lovely little "M & S" quill knife is by "Marshes & Shepherd" ?
And "V crown R" would be the right time frame.

Now that razor has THE LOOK. That's what they patterned the French ivory cell after.

Nick,I'd love to trade you out of the Rawson whittler, that's a nice one.:)

Thanks for the compliments gents!

Thanks for the offer Lyle but I want to hang onto the whittler for a while, she's the newer kid on the whittler block in my collection so I can't let er' go just yet... I will have something else you could also be interested in heading my way in the near future, I'll keep you posted! ;)

Thanks Robb. Yes, it's a real feature of Quill Knives. This is quite a tiny one.

Thanks a lot for that information my friend, I shall investigate further! :)

Thanks Lyle. I have another ivory straight razor, but this has the best tooth :)

Fine bunch of Ivory you've shown us Jack, and Nick!

Jack, that Ivory razor has some beautiful tooth on it!

I'm also interested to hear more about the KFS, and shoehorn!

Thanks Charlie, I'm glad you like it my friend :)

I wasn't going to post the other stuff. I think it may be bone rather than ivory, but I'd be grateful for some informed second opinions

Amazing kfs set Jack, sorry I can't help with the ivory / bone question. [I would ask you ! :D ].
67nick that's the "lovely lovely" whittler isn't it ? I think I Iam becoming a whittler enthusiast.
Here is an E LECLERE SHEFFIELD in, [I think] ivory [?]. 3 3/8 inches closed.
