Old Timers, Did you play Zorro as a kid.

Yes Stomper it was Texas John Slaughter I just didnt remember... I did a edit on the other thread I remembered Richard Boone... I kept thinking Jack Palance now he is a scarey guy.....
And Sgt Presten and his dog ???? King ???? Was it ???

Yukon King and Rex the horse. I actually have a couple episodes of Seargent Preston, Yancy Derringer and the old Jim Bowie tv shows on VHS that I taped years ago from reruns. An interesting sidenote about Richard Boone as Paladin - years after the show he donated the guns he used in the show for a charity auction and bought them himself.

John

How about Leslie Nielson as "The Swamp Fox", another Disney classic.

was sgt Prestons dog named King ?
Also do you remember a show on Sat noontime Sky King he flew a plane and drove a jeep he had a niece named Penny (( I think he married her in real life ))

I remember Sky King, and Penny and wasn`t his ranch named the King Ranch? There was also a younger guy on the show but I can`t remember his name. How about "The Lawman" starring John Russell?

John

Jack142, yes, Sgt. Preston's dog was named King. German Shepard, I believe...close to my heart because my name is Preston...and I always played that part.

I think the kids name was Clipper and I dont remember the name of the ranch.... You know as I think of shows watched as a youth there was no real bloodshed you know no gore no guts Bad guys got punched once and they were done for,,, not even a bloody nose..
and I carried a knife to school every day a small slipjoint no one considered it a weapon...
Was I raised in a more innocent time ?>

Pjsjr,
I dont now if he was a German sheppard or a Huskie... but I loved that dog What memories... Elizabeth huh I'm out in Bennett

Stomper, your more than likely right...I do suffer from CRS...but German Shepard was close!!! Preston

ok I got one for you guys how about Daniel Boone Fess Parker.. Anybody remember seeing him using his knife ?

Of course I remember The Swamp Fox, because I remember the theme:
"Got no bullets, got no powder. We always fight with an empty gun. Only makes us shout the louder, we are the men of Marion. Swamp Fox, Swamp Fox, tail on his hat. No one knows where the Swamp Fox's at. Swamp Fox, Swamp Fox, hiding in the glen. We'll run away to fight again."

The theme song that I quoted earlier, when continued went:
"There was a gun that won the west, there was a man among the best, the fastest gun or man alive, a lightning bolt when he drew that COLT 45"
The hero of the story was Christopher Colt and he was a gun dealer and secret government agent.

Palidin's theme started:
"Have gun will travel is the card of a man, a knight without honor in a savage land..."

Do you recognize the start of this theme:
"Smooth as the handle on a gun (...) is the name".

Anyone remember Yancey Derringer? Riverboat gambler who traveled with his indian sidekick. The indian, I believe was called Chingachcook. Ole Ching carried his bowie behind his neck, under his long hair, handle down. I believe the show was also titled Yancey Derringer.

Jeff, you certainly don't suffer from CRS just look at all the S*** that you can remember...bet you are terrific at Trivial Pursuit...do you work at it or does it just come easy for you? I do envy you at that.

Jack142, go through Bennett quite a bit, know it well. Preston

Yes, we all were. Innocent, but in many ways better than what is around today. Can anyone tell me where the time goes? I mean we're going back 45-50 years on this stuff. Doesn't seem that long ago to me.

Thanks for the memories.

pjsjr, I don't remember real events or real people all that well, but I remember TV themes and jingles. Back before the game Trivial Pursuit was invented a couple friends and I would have a contest where we would go back and forth coming up with themes and jingles. At one point I picked up a song book full of old TV tunes. Those same friends and I would have contests with things like throwing knives, spears, and rubber knives. I could generally beat most of them with anything edged, except nobody could beat Chris with a spear.

You know I was thinking that the ranch on Sky King was the Flying-W Ranch, but that's the place in Colorado Springs that has cowboy cookouts and plays country western music. The real name was the Flying Crown Ranch. You would get there in the Songbird. My wife was a big fan of Penny.

A spin-off/imitation of Sky King was a series called "The Whirlybirds" where the heroes owned a helicopter. Another trivia question: What acid rock band was originally named "The Whirlybirds"? Answer: "The Strawberry Alarm Clock" famous for "Incense and Peppermints". I know that because an old friend of mine sang the lead on the record (although he was not a member of the group).
