Older Spyders with newer blade steel?

Why spoil the beauty of these fantasies with remarks about the ugly realities of business?

For me, I'd go for a Police model in ZDP, with a four-way clip, lanyard hole, waved PE blade, and G10 handles. All black please.

OK folks I appreciate your feedback even though most of it is on a downward slant. However I am stressing to do this with just a very few select models. With the very high collector appeal of at least 2 models that come to mind I still think it has good potential. Those being the Massad Ayoob and JD Smith. I truly would be shocked and surprised if those 2 failed with newer blade steels and handle materials.

The ZDP-189 truly saved face for the Calypso Jr. The Carbon Fiber handles that have been used on old models i.e. the Police, The Military, The Harpy ect have all been at least moderate if not good results. But I still maintain on a few select models not only would it give new Spyderco collectors/afficionados a chance to enjoy some of the classics like the aforementioned.

Sure it would be a roll of the dice>> but isn't every new model that comes off the line

I'll settle for VG-10 if they make a waved PE police. I always love the lines of that knife, but hate the ss handle and combo edge.

Who do you think keeps Spyderco in business? That "average" person is buying Delicas and Enduras.

The "average" person is what pays the bills, we collectors and knife knuts are a small minority.

Exactly. $40-50 Enduras and Delicas is what they choose as "expensive knife". Not $150-200 sprint.

VG-10 Matriarch, plz

There actually were a few VG-10 Matriarch models made. They like the C-46 Lum Tanto folder and the C-56 Zowada models all had their last batches made with VG-10 Blade steel right before they were discontinued from the line up. And the VG-10 Matriarchs aren't that hard to find if you are patient. They do come up on Ebay from time to time. However I've never seen a gray Matriarch with VG-10 though.

I've actually never bought off of ebay. Tried bidding a couple of times, but didn't win... Thanks for the tip though. I'll try looking occasionally.
