Olight S1A, S1R, S2R

Some practical use tonight with the S1A light, had to change out a bulb in my car's headlight bank, a very small parking light, so in the rain, ugh, I was able to utilize the flashlight's magnetic properties by having it fasten to the raised inside of the hood of the car to shine a nice light down onto the work area ;)
Other uses have been mainly heading out to the tool shed at night, or getting around the house once we have turned off the main lights just prior to going to bed, fundamental type of things where this certainly was a great aid without dragging my 'willing' wife outside to hold the light :)

Hey Gary, is the s2r to big for jeans pocket carry? I'm used to a single aa olight i2, and wanted to move up in run times.

Also, is the weight an issue with keeping the light held on a metal surface with the magnet?

Good question, depends on how tight those jeans are ;)

I laid the light along side my Benchmade Triage folder, which is just over 5/8" thick, where the S2R comes in about 7/8" thick so I'm guessing that it should ride any worse than carrying a folder of that size.

And another handy situation to use the light, even though the situation was NOT handy, my car had a flat tire, luckily I had made it home, I went to remove it and the rim was stuck fast !!! man it seemed like it would NEVER come free, had to enlist the aid of my son in law and a sledge hammer and we finally got it to pop off, slid a board behind the rim and tire and he laid on the ground and swung the sledge against the board and pop off the tire came. I had the car on both the car jack and a jack stand so it was pretty secure.

The light worked well, I used it's magnet on the rim of the spare tire so it shown against the car and then again on the flat tire's rim as I was putting the spare tire on. Those magnets sure come in handy!

I have another light that just arrived I'll be taking some photos of and doing a review, but I think I'll start it's own thread as this one is growing larger, although it is about the same size as these, it is the newly released S10R iii and it came with a nifty charging base.

Not to step on Gary's toes but I've been carrying the S2R for a few weeks as my work EDC in jeans. In my opinion it is approaching the limit of what I'd consider too big for EDC though it still carries comfortably clipped inside my left front pocket.

They made an even smaller one

From left to right; S10 S1, S mini.

It doesn't have the magnet like it's predecessors, but man is it nice. Comes in 3 different titanium versions (mine's the bead blasted one) with neutral whit LEDs and 3 different copper versions and a stainless one with cool white LEDs. These are limited editions (3000 of each version), no word yet if they'll make a regular alu version as well in the future.

UI is very similar to the S1, but they've brought back the lock-out feature and full memory mode without that ten minute limit and including memory for the moonglow mode.

The H1 Nova just arrived today, it may be even smaller still plus it has a 90* head.

Not sure about toes, but if you meant adding to the review, it's more than welcome ;)

As mentioned I carry these in the side pockets of my carhartt jeans, which works great, as it's just them hanging out by themselves, I don't carry them in my main pockets.

And Goober, those look pretty small and HalJordon that H1 Nova is probably pretty handy device too I bet!

Gary I think you were actually pretty dead-on when you said no skinny jeans. Good thing I'm not a skinny jeans guy. It's a little bit bigger than the I2 that I have been carrying for the last three years, but I knew that when I ordered it. A couple of comparison shots:

Overall I'm completely digging it, and the run time on this thing should be amazing. I do add that without the pocket clip it's very hard to feel where the switch is. That adds a little bit more to the pocket but it's okay.

On days I want to go really light I'll go back to the I2, but for most days and the style of clothes I wear the s2r will fit right in.

Nice :) and I do like mine a lot, very handy light! Thanks for those photos, good to see the comparison, especially with the critter club on the right, that's a hefty light there for sure!

By chance do you have any suggestions for a good bulb to upgrade to LED on that 3D?

Well. Maybe not smaller than the SMINI but still cool.

I really was going back and forth between the s1a, the s1r and the s mini. Now that the nova is out in neutral white this is what I am getting when my wallet refills. Will be just right for illuminating baby poop in the night.

I agree, it is an interesting light right there.

Also I was told that Olight will have*20-35%*discount during*Nov.24-28th. from their web site, can't link to them from here but it sounds like a nice discount on some great lights.

Up to 45% even. Unfortunately it's only for US residents.

Hmm sorry to hear that, must be some distributors over there?

Yeah, but they don't partake in the sale. Too bad or I would have bought another S mini. They're a 100 bucks over here & I don't want to pay full retail again.

But you guys should definitely take advantage

That's to bad that they don't participate, :(
