Been looking at getting a new watch. Had my eye on a Omega mid seamaster. Any suggestions of the quartz/auto choices?

Any other suggestions? I like real simple lines. Nothing busy. blue or black face/bezel. Just need time and maybe date on the face. Want SS band with secure clasp. Need midsize face, nothing too big- got small wrists. Waterproof for diving. Going to use this watch. Budget is under 1500.

you might check out TimeZone.com Sales corner & Public Forum.

i would with out reservation go straight for a Bell & Ross, the professional Line, Type Marine & Type Deminuer
Bell & Ross

Oris TT1
Glycine Lagunare

used IWC Aquatimer (hardly take mine off anymore)
Something by SINN watches (german)
Brietling colt is a good & a nice.

Speedmaster's are nice too but they are all chronometers i think.

I second the Oris TT1 and their other divers watches. They are the best bang for the buck when it comes to swiss automatics/quartzes.

I'm not sure about Tags though. Many people swear by them, but recently they just seem to be too overpriced, when you can get a better watch in an Oris for cheaper.

Don't know too much about other brands, so I won't comment on them.

A little trivia about watches and Formula 1; Michael Schumacher wears an Omega Speedmaster and Oris is a sponsor of the BMW WilliamsF1 team. I think Tag still has a relationship with Mclaren Mercedes, but Swatch (who owns Omega) is now the official timekeeper in Formula 1.

Just go for the full size SMP, automatic. With this you have a watch that fullfills your needs and looks great. Try a full size on, I think you'll find it to be fine. The automatic is a real watch with a soul not just another quartz movement. IMHO

TZ will have some great buys. I was able to get a 30% discount from a very reputable dealer, way below your price range. E-mail me if you want the name of the dealer, he's in Manhattan.

Going to try on the full size although my wrist is 6 1/4".

Any other suggestions?

No matter if you get the mid-size or full size, get the Automatic! Autos are just great watches!

Get an automatic. It's true that they aren't as accurate as a quartz but there is something about never having to change batteries :D

Yeah my wrist is really small too, it kinda sucks. Probably need to get a midsize watch, for example the only <40 mm watch oris makes is a TT1 Divers in 36 or 38 mm. Omega makese midsize versions of most of their seamasters as well as the speedmaster chrono. Rolex makes versions of the datejust, etc and yachtmaster in intermediate sizes but no <40 mm version of GMT Master II or Explorer II.
:grumpy:

Good luck

I agree. You'll be fine with the full size - and you'll get used to it. It will hold its value better than the mid-sized, they're not as popular.

Before you decide, be sure to go check out the black faced GMT. You can track a second time zone, and it is VERY sharp looking.

Automatic is the only way to go. Quartz are not going to hold value, and an auto will last forever.

If you go to http://www.pmwf.com - those guys are cool, and they'll show you pictures of anything you want to see.

Does anyone have an opinion on the Invicta Autos? You can often get them for $150 to $400 depending on the movement.

my brother has the midsized SMP auto, fine looking watch and the bracelet and clasp are of superb quality. All SMP's autos are chronometers as well. The midsize is 36mm so it still looks fine on a smaller wrist.

I have an Invicta "Sub" the Submariner lookalike. Decent watch for the $50 odd dollars I got it for from Ashford a few years back. Lume is only okay for a diving watch. Watch has a 21 jewel Miyota movement made by Citizen. Bracelet is of surprisingly good quality, all solid links as well. The Invicta is a good beater but I wouldn't pay $100 for the diver.

I have a smaller wrist too. I purchased a mid-size Omega Seamaster and hated it. It just seemed too small and not nearly as impressive as the full sized version. Dont' forget that automatic watches do eventually require servicing. This can be costly depending on who does the service.

I am hoping to get a full sized, automatic Seamaster soon. I tried one on in a jewellers recently and fell in love with the watch.
I like the classic military style of the 2254.50.00
Look at this beauty...

I've got smaller wrists than you do and I wear, 24 hours a day, either a full sized ti Omega SMP Auto or an Oris TT1 Williams F1 Auto. The Oris took a little longer to get used to because its so much thicker, but I wouldn't even consider a mid-sized watch anymore.

I have a Omega Seamaster, and its a nice watch. I get a couple years out of the battery. Even with that much time (no pun entended) its a real pain in the ass changing the battery. Although I still wear the Omega, I have a automatic that I wear more often.

Hi balrog-

If you like Omega watches, you'll probably also favor the looks of Tutima, Fortis, and Kobold. All have a "tool approach" to their designs and offer some models around your pricepoint. Any additional complications (e.g. GMT function, chronographs, day/date) will increase prices.

I currently own an automatic mid-size Omega Seamaster purchased a few years ago. Steel bezel on a steel bracelet with a white face. It has served me very well. Soon to be sold cheaply to finance additional knives and watches!
