On My Case: A Year In Review

The reason I am absent from this forum is that it costs me money. I hadn’t finished this post and I was at Deadwood shopping... I love traditional slipjoints, I have more Case than any other. My wife gave me a mini trapper 20 years ago and I was hooked. My father-in-law, a south AL farmer is a Case man and I respect him and his choice. I once was a carbon blade only, but Case’s SS works well. I think I need a yellow handled, cv Trapper. I like the utility. And I’m Christmas broke.
Welcome back!

Typically around here the spey blade isn't used for castration either. I've only seen it once where it was used. I don't know how the trapper pattern became so universal in a cowboy's pocket but I don't know of a one that doesn't have one or two. But that may well be regional. Building a belt sheath right now for a rancher in Nebraska and its for a large stockman.

Said belt sheath is now finished and shipping on this Case. to be worn on right hip:

A guy needs one of these belt sheaths in case pockets are full:

Here’s a neat little knife that just never caught on the way it should. Take the mini trapper, which is just the best version of a slim dogleg jack and add the universally handy combo tool. Why everyone doesn’t own 2 Traplifters, I’ll never know. I will add onto what Eli Chaps Eli Chaps here and say the steel really does need to be run harder. No way around it, this stuff loves to roll it’s edge.

Thoroughly enjoying this thread as Case has been my favorite traditional pocketknife for many years now. Interesting to read all the viewpoints on the patterns of this historic old American company. Two patterns I like that I haven’t seen mentioned yet in this thread are the 18 Medium Stockman (3-9/16”) and the 47 Premium Stockman (3-7/8”). I have carried an 18 for a long time and until 2019 was my most carried (the 32 pattern with it’s squared bolsters recently edged out the 18 for most pocket time). The 18 is a two spring knife, the older ones have wider Turkish Clip blades, the new ones have narrower Turkish Clip main blades (available in both SS & CV). The Case 47 has full sized blades, but with the rounded bolsters it is very pocket friendly. The 47 is available in SS and CV, the older ones have krinked blades and two springs, the newer ones have straight blades and three springs (pretty much eliminates blade rub). OH

I've been carrying this one again lately and had forgotten how sweet it is: the 6344 "medium" stockman. I put "medium" in quotes because it is a bit smaller than other mediums, yet way larger than the small stockman (which is smaller than a peanut). I love the size and the feel of the Rogers corn cob jigged bone, and I appreciate the pen blade more than a spey. This was my second Case knife, purchased shortly following a 6318 stockman. That was back when I thought the stockman was the only pattern worth looking into, and surely a couple of Case knives would be all I would ever need. (Silly boy!)

Love my Case knives, always have at least one or two on me. Usually in my back pocket is a Mini Trapper with single Wharncliffe blade, Mini Copperlock, Russlock or Slimline Trapper, and in my front watch pocket will be a Peanut, Pen or a Swayback Jack. I really like the Swayback so I think my next one will be the Gent, I like single bladed knives.
Here’s the Jack.

I would love to see a Sway Back Gent done in the size of the GEC Viper.
