On Playing Wordle . . .

Curious to see how sgt1372 sgt1372 does today.

11/18/2022: Wordle 517 3/6

⬜⬜⬜⬜⬜
⬜⬜⬜⬜🟨
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩

It was obvious what type of word it was
after the 2nd guess.

3 choices per WordleBot but the answer was
the 1st and only word that I considered.

The current NYT average for this puzzle is 4.0.
WordleBot solved it in 4.

11/17/2022: Wordle 516 3/6 THERE

5 choices per WordleBot but again the answer
was the 1st and only word that I conisdered.

The other choices were: TWERP, TWERK, METRE &
EXERT. They never crossed my mind.

The final NYT average for this puzzle was 3.6.
WordleBot solved it in 3 too.

I had T_ER_ and had it to THERE, TWERP, or TWERK, and I thought... no way do they take TWERK, but I went with TWERP as being more obscure than THERE and see where it got me ha.

A double letter word is more "obscure" (or unlikely) in terms of frequency (as opposed to word usage) which is always another factor to consider.

However, this wasn't the reason I chose THERE.

I started w/the letter pattern "T ___ ___ RE." I then chose "H" as the 2nd letter which left "TH ___ RE"

The only possible choice after that was THERE.

None of the other possible choices could have fit this approach.

BTW: I really enjoy discussing our different approaches to solving these word puzzles because it helps to learn how to solve these puzzles better.

Just posting your grid & score in blank really isn't informative or helpful in this regard. If this is all that was possible, I wouldn't bother.

-----------------------------------------

This is why I'm so transparent in posting the answer grid for each of the puzzles (the day after) with all of the words used exposed.

Even posting the answer grid for failed puzzles would be helpful because it will inform others what NOT to do in a similar situation.

I would do this more but honestly I mostly forget to screenshot the answer grid.

517 was tough - took me 4 tries, but a lot of brain power to get to the final word

Tough for you because you weren't familiar with this type of word in the context of the game.

Should be easier for you the next time you run across one like it again.

No argument, but I usually do the puzzle with my morning coffee and don't want to post spoilers. By the next day, I've forgotten what the word was. Memory like a goldfish, I suppose. ;)

I will say that my reluctance to guessing a double-lettered word has cost me points a few times. It always feels like I'm giving up a potential clue.

There certainly aren’t many words with that particular limitation but it took me a long time to think of it for whatever reason. Maybe I just don’t use it often enough.

This is my plight as well. I often don’t recall the previous day answer. I also don’t like to give up a spot to a double letter—hard mode pressure I guess?
