According to my stats, this is my eighth time in 256 rounds of guessing right on the second attempt. That calls for some savoring in my book. Nice to get it in two guesses only two days after getting “catch”ed by the dreaded x/6

8 wins on the second guess out of 256 games is pretty damn impressive. I've maybe done that twice in my wordle career.

I've been loose and casual with my wordle play and most times half awake while doing it. Score hasn't been my concern, it's just about the winning streak for me (x games in a row solved). A nice clean simple metric. Suppose I will begrudgingly have to "tighten up"... because you fellas are taking this to task.

I doubt I'll enjoy it as much because of this, so thanks a lot you bastards.

I've been less concerned with number of guesses, although it's nice, and more satisfied by efficient guesses, even if some bad luck means a four- or five- or even six-guess day.

I consider anything for myself under three to be lucky. I don't use the same starting words all the time, so I guess that gives me a slightly better chance than some who use the same starter words. I also take more stock of a winning streak, and I got spoiled early on because I started out with the biggest streak I've ever had (50) and haven't come close to that since. I thought I was pretty decent until I found this thread and sgt1372 sgt1372 showed me what a novice I am at strategy. But I'm content to be an amateur.

IMO scoring a 2 is almost entirely due to luck and scoring 8 out of 256 games is pretty extraordinary. Congrats! 🥳

I've only scored an Eagle 3x in the 487 games that I've played but, unlike you, I no longer alter my starter words or their order. So, my chances of scoring another Eagle are quite slim but that's fine w/me because my goal is not to achieve the lowest possible score in each game.

My goal is simply to try solve the every puzzle in 3-4 guesses and to never fail to solve a puzzle in 6, which I have been able to do, with a "win streak" of 277 games and an average score of 3.64 for those 277 games, since I started keeping score of my results.

The 1st 210 games I count as "practice" before I did some research and learned how to play the game better. ;)

Consistency is preferable to peaks of quick success and valleys maddening defeat. That's why you're the pro and I'm the novice 8-). I have the same problem with chess, as well. I enjoy playing and have moments of inspiration and moments of buffoonery, but I don't study the nature of the game sufficiently to become consistently good.
