On Randall knives

Put $10 a week into a jar. We aren’t talking Rolex money here.

The $50 investment will save you $125 off the price of the knife in 5 years. My beer money buys my Randall’s and I still have extra money left.
I'm confused, what are we talking about that costs $50?

I bought this model 16 used for around $450 and I take it SCUBA Diving sometimes. I did stop using the waxed leather sheath underwater and put it in a kydex lined nylon sheath, because I was more worried about the leather than the knife. I use my old UDT knife sometimes also.

About Randall pricing. Back in 67 I was surprised how reasonable the prices seemed to be and I was making minimum wage in those days. The base price for a 1-8 was $38.00. Having my name added to the reverse side added a few dollars more. What I didn't get from them was a left handed sheath per my order, something that has happened to me a number of times with custom knifemakers. The wait time was 18 months. 5 years does seem a little excessive if you actually intend to use the knife.

Darn... How can anyone argue with logic like this?
Seeing as they now have a 6 year waiting list, I make that $1.25/week after $50 deposit.
6 year investment deposit paid for

If anyone is interested.

The one that I received last month took 4 years 5 months. Three weeks faster than the one I received last year.

The first time I’ve seen the wait go down.

The model 1 goes up about $25 every January. So ordering the end of December gives the best return on your investment.

So what.
That's bullshit. Unless someone is big into handmade knives, combat knives, or is old enough to have been around in Randall's hey day no one knows what a Randall knife is.
They still make a very good knife regardless of the fact that the designs tend to be "classic". I like classic stuff and Randall's are classic. Scotty, at this point, no one cares what you think. As has been said before, you want one, buy one. If you want something else, get something else.

That means nothing to me. I didn't put my posts here to get caring from you people. My posts are from my experience with a handmade Randall Knife. I received a Randall knife from a Randall dealer that was garbage. It was an embarrassing example of a hand made knife. My dealer and Michael Randall's customer service sucks too. When someone buys a Randall knife they are just getting a name, and a crude example of a "classic" as you put it. Randall Knives are a classic case of caveat emptor, and they always will be.

Over the years I have bought over 30 Randall's. Most I sold or traded. I have mostly kept my Model 1's,2's and 4-6's.
I recently just ordered a nice unique Model 14 and a 12-9 14 grind.

I have never been disappointed with any of mine, I have enjoyed owning them all and I regret selling my early orders from the 80's. Almost all of mine were purchased through authorised dealers without a single problem.

I hope Randall continues to go from strength to strength.:)

$10/week x 52 weeks = $520 yr x 4.5 yrs = $2340:eek:
That seems like a pretty significant price increase, even considering that its been 20 years since I ordered mine(;)). The $25/yr increase that you mentioned didn't sound too bad when I first read it...until I considered it in those terms. (Now I'm curious, and will have to actually go price out the knife I'd been thinking about for some time )

If you saved $15-00 a month for 4.5 years you could basically afford almost anything they make or you could have two more modest knives.

When I see some of the rubbish knives out there being sold for rediculous markups Randall's are still a great buy.
