Pictures here! On the Bench

well, slapped this puppy on the ole slab, and the spine is pretty much dead nuts straight. I was very surprised, I thought for sure I'd have more cold setting to do. The centerline is scribed, so pretty soon I'll start crowning the spine.

unfortunately, the edge is not centered- it's off kilter to one side. One solution would be to re bevel the side it's off to, and grind to the centerline. I'd lose about 1cm of width if I did this, which isn't a deal breaker, but it would fundamentally alter the purpose of this piece. After some conversation with my buddy, Matt, I'm going to try (again) to bring the edge to center. The technique I used before was inadequate, although it did alter things a little bit. This method is getting me closer to where I want to be, hopefully it brings everything into alignment.

^ That is a lot of swarf in that plastic trash bin Lorien Lorien . Either you have been busy grinding lately or you just like testing the weight limit of the bin. 🤣

Back to the daily grind again tomorrow…👍

there's a LOT of W2 in that bucket, from the sword I'm working on

I got this hand crank machine a couple years ago, took it all apart and put it back together and was stoked to get using it- but I already had projects underway that I needed to hand stitch anyway, plus got a realish job- and I just couldn't figure out how to use it at the time.

recently, I've been really needing to get this thing going and I've spent a lot of time screwing around with it and trying to figure it out. As much youtube vids as I could find about it, and every time coming away with another piece of the puzzle.

just now, I sat down at the machine and took a real scientific look at my situation. And finally, after all this time, I finally got it to stitch! It's dumb, but a big day for me. I appreciate any and all wins
