Pictures here! On the Bench

I gotta say- I'm really glad you got your mitts on that Cormorant. Not gonna be many more of those taking flight.
You been with me almost since the beginning, that's not a small thing, to me.🤝

Ahhh man Lorien Lorien , I’ve been wanting to find a beautiful spot to post some worthy pics of it. Been a little sick and injured though and I’ve only had it a few days.

It’s such a gorgeous and well thought out knife and I’m ecstatic to have finally tracked one down. The fact that its original commissioner is such a special Canadian gentleman really sweetens the deal.

The maker ain’t half bad either ! 👊🏼 I appreciate you brother.

I'm happy to report a new member of the family!

Nice acquisition Lorien Lorien ! One more significant step forward toward working smarter not harder. 😉

thanks bro. I'll tell ya- milling a stop pin channel in a blade or in the liners is SUPER time consuming to do by hand, and even if I'm careful it looks like shit. Not that anyone can see it, but that's not the point. If I'm the guy forkin out the bucks for the kind of knives I make, I'd prefer them to be as close to perfect as possible in as many places as possible. This machine is going to not only save me gobs of time, but will help me to produce the kind of precision I aspire to in my work.

I will need to buy a lot more stuff in order to get my machine operational- expensive stuff, like vises, DROs, auto feeds, cutters etc etc etc- so it'll be a while before I get to cutting chips. But man, this is a pretty exciting chapter in my life! Things are going to get pretty wild!

had a productive weekend in the shop, and was able to get the pallet out from under my machine, and place the unit near its final resting place. It wasn't pretty, but it was pretty stupid. Got the job done tho 🤷‍♂️

I have two of these steel plates. They are made for Park Tool bicycle workstands and weigh 70lbs each. One will be at either end of the stand I'm designing for the machine, and I'll be using some kind of dimensional lumber for in between. I'ma make sure I have a storage space in the stand for collets, cutting fluid and whatnot. Might drop by the local mill and see what the have for fir

got the plates all cleaned up, now that I know I can make em work. Everything's laid out and it's time to start drilling holes. While using a hand drill on 12mm thick steel is something I'd think to describe as being unpleasant, it actually is. And now you know.

a smokin deal found on some speed adjustable exhaust fans, it turned out to be a 2 for 1. Always pays to scope the warehouse deals. I'll be using 4" merv 11 baffle filters, with 1" aluminum electrostatic prefilters. The idea will be to use one for steel and the other for everything else.

fuck this shit.

Drilling goes a lot faster and easier if you wear socks. 🤣

This photo makes think of a crafty old precision toolmaker I worked with for many years who swore by using a can of sweetened condensed milk as his favorite cutting fluid for jobs like that. One of his tribal knowledge secrets that he experimented with after many difficult jobs that resulted in saying the same words you said at the top of your photo. 🤬

Hang in there Lorien. Better days and projects are ahead.

Phil
