On the fence Duke vs Woodsman

well that escalated quickly ;) . Don't give up on the woodsman Andy, albeit time off can be a good thing. For many of us out there, it is one of the profiles that brought us to fiddleback forge. While I'm sure creating such an epic pattern can at times be downright maddening, it makes for a pretty amazing knife, and IMO one of the best >5" bushcrafting profiles on the market today

Oh, and to the OP -- sorry for the delayed response; I have been on work travel.. I've owned multiple models of each and honestly, you cannot go wrong with either. In the end, if you process game or want any sort of versatility go with the duke.. If you want a dedicated, bad @$$ bushcraft knife that is both aesthetically pleasing and amazingly functional bar none go with the woodsman; they are truly amazing in person.

(note, she's a lot dirtier these days)

I'm actually curious why the secondary bevel is added at all on a convex grind. Kind of defeats the advantages of a convex edge doesn't it?

The secondary bevel is often very small (and quickly removed;)) and Andy grinds them thin so cutting performance is very high.

Your Woodsman has a classic elegance to it Will. When you first posted pictures of this knife, it made me want to give the Woodsman another try. I am glad that I did. I agree with your comments about the factors to consider when deciding between the Woodsman and the Duke. Spot on words from a man of experience.

Thanks,

Phil

Oh man that's some kind of awesome, that black bolster and pins, lanyard inset set it off.

I just noticed in the preview post the piece of paper listed 3 woodsman, guess that third one is in the wall

That's probably the case lol. Andy is the proverbial temperamental artist. He is anal about the quality of work that leaves his shop, and very passionate about it...

Pretty amazing, I have an add-on that refreshes my browser, had it set for every 15 seconds in this case, it refreshed, the thread popped up and bammo gone.

Will be super extra ready next week, err or try to be. Anyway I thought there would be 2 woodsman but I only saw one. Maybe it will pop up next week. I suppose first in would of bought both anyway though so no matter there. Anyway beautiful blades, ah well more to come next week.

well that was incredibly disappointing

I don't usually see 3 Woodsman models in one Friday post. He may have meant there were two before he threw one into the wall...Fridays do get hectic at Fiddleback Forge...

True enough, but if he nixed it no one will see one ever after today, just had my self all jacked up to get one.

Iirc I ran outta steel after 2

One being sold today and the second is "wall art" now

I was hoping to see a Duke or Woodsman in Shadetree today. I didn't think I would be fast enough to score the Woodsman that was there and since there was no Duke I went with the next best thing, a camp knife!

The leuku is a sweet looking blade, just if it was in green and black or tuxedo, maybe even white with black pins.

A) I sort of doubt it is a permanent nixing, and B) they pop up in the flea market here sometimes, saw one the other day about 3 pages back, and they pop up in the exchange now and then. Not everyone loves them as much as I do. If I could afford it, I would have 3 or 4 by now :)

That in encouraging. So many great blades. Its sort of like Christmas every Friday, a bummer to miss one but get excited again about next week.
Just waiting for the material combo I like and the speed to claim it!

I'd assume they'd come back at some point as well. It's too popular of a model to disappear forever, but don't take my word for it. Since there's quite a few out there, you can score them on the secondary markets mist lists.

I'm with you mist, I had two of them at one point and sold one off to honor my no duplicates rule. Too bad I didn't keep it (my prettiest Fiddleback I've ever owned but too pretty to use).
