On the Road Again with Merle

Not in, just wanted to share a story. A buddy and I were passing by and saw a patrol car with lights flashing in a rear parking lot. The deputy was down on the ground scuffling with a ne'er do well. We got out and assisted the deputy in restraining the bad guy so the deputy could cuff him. Turned out it wasn't a deputy but the Sheriff himself. He'd decided on keeping his feet wet and had grabbed a patrol car and had hit the mean streets of Bakersfield. So was the ne'er do well Merle? No but the parking lot was for Trout's, the bar in Oildale (northern Bakersfield), where Merle really got his start. Thats where he helped to create the Bakersfield sound along with Buck Owens and others.

this is hilarious, i will follow this with much enthusiasm. that level of detail might require a laser engraving to get Merle's features!
Just for the record, that level of detail is totally achievable by hand with Bulino style engraving, but that's not my style of engraving. The knife will be getting the name in a nice script and some flourishes in more of a traditional bolster stamp style.😁

all the same, i love the idea, its like a knife short snorter, cool pass around.

My Merle Haggard story...
My wife and I bought tickets to one of Merle's concerts.
The opening act was somebody we'd never heard of, but we were there to see Merle!!!
Merle came out staggering drunk, ragged looking women on both arms, slurred a couple of songs, and was escorted off the stage. 😜
Luckily the opening act came back out and sang for another hour because he was really good and we liked him... That opening act was George Straight. 🤠

^ Ha - I’ve been lucky enough to see Merle a couple times. First time it wasn’t Merle who was blitzed, it was his horn player. Stumbled around the stage, but didn’t miss a beat. Great show!

Looking forward to seeing the engraving and this thread. Will love seeing everyone’s neck o the woods.

When I was photographing Seasick Steve in London once he was so plastered he kept trying to get off the stage to have a fight every 5 minutes.

I get the feeling, after reading a few of the replies so far, that some folks didn’t read the part right after that photo that states that is not, in fact, the design. 😁

So, for clarification (and I’ll add some emphasis to my original post, as well): the knife is NOT going to have a photo of Merle Haggard engraved on the bolster. That part was a joke.

Chip and I worked out a simple (compared to a photorealistic image of Merle Haggard) design that I think fits the knife well.

You fooled me

Bring Merle up to Alaska! I promise to take good care and get some fun pics :)

Edit to add: when I'm done I can send along to Wharn Wharn in Hawaii if he's game? Because if Merle makes it to the arctic in the middle of winter that is definitely where he's going to wanna visit next!
