On the Road Again with Merle

On Thursday, it'll be two weeks since Merle arrived here in Yorkshire, so he will then be travelling to Scotland, to stay with Magizm7 Magizm7 :) I'm sure he's going to have a fantastic time

We haven't done much today, but I thought Merle might like to share a pie ;)

Thank you Jack. On behalf of the nation we will be honoured to host the legend that is Merle. I just hope he is up to the challenge after all that fine Yorkshire fayre he has been getting through. Maybe we will put him on a liquid diet for a few days! I've got the Irn Bru ready:)
Scotland... cool. That’ll be interesting too.
Hopefully, I have a few ideas.
And scenic :)
Yeah, if the weather behaves!

That’s what I’m hoping for.
I'm sure we won't be disappointed :)
I am super excited to see Glasgow. 😁
I was watching a YouTube video last night, where a couple of guys went from one end of our island to the other. The route was terrible, and they barely stopped. When they said they were going to Glasgow, I thought, 'At last'. They just went to a chip shop and a street-corner bar in Easterhouse!

Fantastic! :) Merle looks to be in better shape than his current host, but I'm sure going up a few glorious Scottish hills won't do him any harm ;) Really looking forward to your posts my friend :)

Hope so! :)
Will be some topical photos for the DF fam😉
We need to get John over! :D ;)

My last day with Merle, but currently, I have to wait in for a delivery. Maybe we'll go and do some whittling out in the garden :)

Thank you Jack. I guarantee you I will not be going to Easterhouse, might not get back out alive😳
We will be throwing a big shindig when John comes to town!

Aye, the Iron Brew the other national drink! When I was last there (79ish), The Gorbells was the area to stay away from!

If everything works out, and my son gets to go to school there, I will let you know when I visit. :)
Fantastic, I'll come up :)

LOL! :D It doesn't look as bad as it used to be, but a shame those fellers didn't see a bit more of Glasgow, such a beautiful city
I looked it up, sounds like a nasty place.
Here's the video John, I think the bald guy is more at home in Eastern Europe, he doesn't seem to have travelled much at home! :D

Yeah, it ain’t in the tourist trail.
Much improved area but has held onto its reputation.
Who knows what the future holds, that video has had a lot of views! 🤣

I had never been before about 1990, but I used to visit regularly, one of the nicest cities I've ever been, even the drunks are friendly. Really had some great times there, with my Scottish pals. I haven't been to many places, where I felt so at home, I could have moved there, but I figured Glasgow already had enough Sassenachs! :D

I wasn't planning on doing much today, in part because I was expecting a beer delivery from one of my local breweries, and had to wait in. So I thought I'd do some gardening while I waited. I'd just got my gardening gear on though, when my beer turned up, so I put it away, and Merle helped me stock the fridge ;)

I was still planning to do some gardening, but I was collared by my next-door neighbour, a lovely woman, but she'd talk the hind leg off a donkey! :D By the time I'd spent 45 minutes talking to her, it'd got pretty hot, too hot for gardening I thought, so I went and got changed, and decided to take Merle for lunch at a country pub :)

I took a couple of pics on the way...

The Harewood Arms is a Samuel Smith's pub, but couldn't be more different from the dives in Leeds city centre, and it has a great beer garden, which is almost always completely empty :D

The barmaid was pleasant and friendly, and when she recommended the spicy bean burger from their new menu, I thought I'd give it a try. I went and sat at my favourite seat in the beer garden, and waited with Merle...

I also had my Hartshead Barlow with me, who has been Earl's regular pocket companion over the past couple of weeks.

My food wasn't long in coming, and I enjoyed it :)

I was tempted to have another pint, but thought I should do something with Merle. I didn't have time to go too far though, as I didn't want to get caught up in the traffic congestion on the roads, due to the current lack of trains here. I was OK for a couple of hours though. I also needed to pick up some shopping, and figured I could get that just as easily in Harrogate, as in central Leeds, so we boarded the bus again, and set off...

Since I'd already taken Merle to Harrogate, I decided to show him a different part of the town, the so-called Montpellier Quarter...

After showing Merle around, and grabbing a coffee at one of the many cafes, I went and did my shopping, and we set off back home, enjoying the fantastic views on the return journey. I'm just getting ready to put Merle back in his travelling valise, and he'll be off in the mail tomorrow. I've enjoyed spending some time with him though, and am grateful to btb01 btb01 for having such a fantastic idea. Great job with that engraving WValtakis WValtakis  I hope Merle has a safe journey, and I'm looking forward to seeing his ongoing adventures

Good to know they’re not all bad. 🙂 That certainly looks like a decent pub. 🍺

Another excellent tour, Jack. Thanks again for taking part and showing Merle (and the rest of us) such a good time.:thumbsup:

Hopefully that curse gets lost somewhere around the Lake District… 😉
