On the Road Again with Merle

I'm not sure how we got to hump day so quick.... Yesterday was a foul, but rotten day with depressing rain and the ending of summer in the air..... My wife and I buttoned up camp and came home for a few days.... This Saturday is the annual kids Halloween party at camp.... The kids dress up and trick or treat the same as they would on the official day.... Since camp closes on Columbus Day, trick or treating occurs early....

This morning Merle and I were talking about his background and association with other limited runs and SFO's.... Merle thought it would be nice to get a photo with some recent SFO's....

In the photo with Merle is the CK SFO 77 Mount of Olives, the Waynorth SFO 35 camp knife and the Lyle Fry SFO 14 Barlow... Merle was pretty impressed with his cousins and enjoyed the time together.....

Today was a busy day for Merle..... We had to get a pot of soup ready for the people attending 2022 Soup Saturday.... Merle seemed to enjoy his time in the kitchen and really stayed on top of things....

We had a pretty good selection of soups to chose from.... I enjoyed a spicy Thai soup while my wife dug into a pot of French Onion.... Also sampled was the Vegetable Beef.....

Later in the day we tidied up the area and headed back to camp..... It was a good day and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.... Tomorrow's activity will be somewhat dependent on the weather....So we'll check things in the morning and make a determination then.....

Looks like a good time, and some really good eating! 🙂

Merle and our Golden Retriever, Wilson, have become great buddies... Wilson is going to be celebrating his 16th birthday on 10/30 which is quite an achievement for a Golden Retriever....

16!! Wow!! Golden Retrievers are great, and Wilson’s one good looking pup.:thumbsup:

Sounds like a great time! Merle did Halloween with my girls last year. Hard to believe he’s been on the move for close to a year now!

That’s quite a crew right there! 😎

Wilson is a real beauty! What a fine old age to reach and still a very handsome fellow. Good stuff Brent. The soup looked very inviting too.

Thank you Sir!.... In his prime Wilson was a perfect specimen..... Now he is King Tut around my Wife and me.... He toilets himself fine, eats and drinks without problems, loves to go for rides, etc.... I've never had a dog live as long, let alone a Golden.... They usually get cancer and are gone by 8-12 years old...... October 30th he'll be 16!🙂🐕👍

Man, I wish I could have got my hands on one of those mount of olives knives. I think I’m going to order some and have Andy Fannin make one for me.

It ain’t merle, but I got out to the swamp today for reasons, figured I’d get a pic a bit closer for you guys.

The Mount of Olives knife is my pride and joy... It isn't the most attractive but it's significance is unparalleled....

Merle arrived in north Texas yesterday afternoon.... upon opening, he opined, "sure is hot here".... I replied, "shoulda been here a month ago... this is fall like weather... heck, it's one degree below 90! " He wasn't amused... He traveled with me to work today, and the company gave us cake as a mini-celebration....
Merle said.... "you want me to cut cake? Don't you have any REAL cutting to do? " Told him to wait, it'll get better.... we go on a trip this weekend....

I'm glad Merle arrived safe and sound!...

Merle said "now this is a little more of a challenge.... cardboard  (yes, Merle can roll his eyes, I was surprised, too) but at least it's more challenging than BUNDT CAKE"
I told him that, yes, there are not many challenges at work, but it is a necessary evil... remember the upcoming road trip....

Looking forward to the road trip!
😁 You might not be, if you knew where we were going.....😁
Seriously, though.... it's my high school reunion (50th edition) and we're headed over to the panhandle for that... to the home of Buddy Holly, Mac Davis, and the team that just beat the Texas Longhorns last week....:thumbsup:

Glad to see Merle made it to Texas! 🤠 And who doesn’t like being welcomed with cake!:thumbsup:

Back from the panhandle... when we got to Lubbock Merle asked "what's there to do here?" I suggested we could go see Prarie Dog Town out at the park, Merle said "Meh..... there's prarie dogs all over the place here.." Yep.... I told him that Lubbock had produced some pretty good musicians, but most of them are gone on.... we stopped out at the Lubbock cemetery and saw a sign describing Buddy Holley's grave site... so we stopped by there.... I find it interesting that most people that mention him spell his last name Holly..... according to his family, it's Holley.... even the sign got it wrong..
The "day the music died".... Buddy, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper... gone too soon.

Also, another music legend from Lubbock, who passed very recently.... Merle said "I remember him! He's the one that sang my theme song! Oh, lord, it's hard to be humble, when you're perfect in every way...." it was my turn to roll my eyes....
