I've talked about this some by email with a few fellow forumites, so I thought I'd start a thread here about it.

Below is a brand new 2008 110 I bought a few days ago, nothing special, plain old out of the box, stock Buck.

Starting today, for the next year until July 1st 2009, this is going to be my ONLY carry and use knife. Now I know there are plenty of folks that carry a 110 daily, but what I plan to do is regularly take photos over the course of the year to show it doing various tasks, and to show how it holds up. I've already taken several pictures showing close ups of the blade and frame and key points in new condition, to compare later shots to.

This will also be a first for me, to stick with the same knife that long! :D

So here's to my little "Year in the life of my favorite Buck knife" and let the fun begin! :D

What a cool project. I look forward to following your new 110 over the next year.

I'm sure your 110 is more than up to the challenge. Good luck with avoiding the temptation to use any of you other knives! I know I couldn't do it- I can't stick with using one knife for even one day, much less an entire year.

This is cool,I have carried a 110 off and on for 20 years and it will hold up just fine.I carry mine right beside my wallet in my back pocket and I hardly even notice its there.

Bear Claw,

I'll be more interested to see how you hold up, only carrying one knife for a whole year. :D

Yeah, that may be a challenge.

Between family and friends your about the 5th person to say that to me, are folks trying to tell me something??? :D

...are folks trying to tell me something??? :D

Your new custom might get kinda lonely. :)

I'm pretty interested in this project. The walmart 110 I just got has become my carry&heavy use knife because it carries much more comfortably than I thought it would and it cuts extremely well.

Dunno how I could just use one folder for a year. But I am interested in this Beer Clap. Keep us posted!

As for me, I am going to only use one fixed blade. While I always have a folder with me, I have decided to do your test by only using my newly arrived 119SLE anytime I use a FB.

Great idea!

If I was more patient and prepared I should record DM, stag 110 here and the ground we're covering.

Thousands of miles thus far and many more to come. Would be a great project for someone besides me :-)

Enjoy! I look forward to your project.

BCCL,

Pick one lubricant and use just that for pivots to standardize test. 300$s

:cool:Looking forward to your Posts. I have no dought that the Knife will hold up and do it's work that it is made for. It's how long you will hold up to carrying just one folder for a year will be the interesting part. I carry three myself almost everyday and the Brands and frames change.:D

BTW I think this is a Cool Test.

Interesting idea, since I have already put INOX oil on it, I'll stick with that for the year also.

I have to say folks, I walked out of the store with this knife for $28.86 with tax, and I just can't fathom a better value in knives!

Interesting that this comes up now -

I had the "if you could only carry one folder" conversation with my wife recently. I told her if it was only one, it would be my Buck 110; and she made the point that I rarely carry my Buck 110 these days.

She made a good point - if I need a knife that I KNOW will get the job done, I usually carry my 110. Otherwise, I use my "lesser" knives for the "lesser" chores.

I'm going to bookmark this thread, and keep up with it.

thx - cpr

ps - I use 3-in-1 oil for all my knife maintenance. I'll be interested to know how the inox stuff works.

INOX is foodsafe and comes with a needle applicator which I really like.

(edits mine) good point - up to now that (food safe) is something I hadn't considered. My blades were always washed with soap before use in the kitchen anyway, but that's still a good consideration.

Needle applicator - that's why I like the 3-in-1; it has the little spout. But the needle applicator is another idea I hadn't thought of . . .

Dang, you learn something new every day.

thx - cpr

So does this mean we're going to get a periodic Spam report from you? How well it slices through a block of spam...how well it slices through that cheddar cheese....hard salami??

I use both INOX and Rem-Oil, but INOX is foodsafe and comes with a needle applicator which I really like.

I have used Mineral Oil as a Lube for knife joints because it is food safe, but I have found it would not last very long (keep in mind that I may open a knife to use it 5 to 10 times a day). Is INOX the same as Mineral Oil?
I don't even know who sells this in the East, and may buy this on-line.
