one folder for survival

Spyderco's Lil' Temperance, S30V, leaf blade.
Why?
Although there are many good folders, BM 710HS, 806D2, ...,
Spyderco Manix, Chinook, ATR, ..., Strider, Sebenza, etc., I prefer the Lil'T because
1. One of the strongest compression locks - liners are nested inside the G-10 handles, MBC rated.
2. A flat 4mm thick blade - a perfect cutter.
3. an excellent S30V steel.
4. open handles - very easy to clean!
5. a lock is very simple - just a liner that gets compressed.
6. the highest fit and finish - works smoothly.
7. handle ergonomics

Now, there are choices i mentioned, certainly good, but I would take it cum grano salis. Axis lock is perfect, but in survival situation, how would you clean the lock, or exchange a broken omega spring? Sebenza has a heavy duty lock, I would prefer a MBC rated one. Chinook and Manix - lockbacks, more difficult to clean. Etc.

I would really prefer fixedblade, if not as close as possible to one, ergo Strider SMF.

Another vote for Buck 110/112 (or similar quality clone such as Schrade LB7).

Tough, easy to keep sharp, the heavy brass bolsters can be used to hammer in a pinch.

Probably my large Sebenza. I have been looking at the Strider. Do they make it in a non-serrated version?

Another vote for the Buck 110.

Tough steel, good multi purpose blade shape, bulletproof.

And not too expensive.

Camillus Aftermath or Maxx Bowie. They're as tough and reliable as anything out there, the blade shapes are versatile, and they're easy to carry.

In a survival situation I would rather have more knife than I need instead of not quite enough.

If I confine myself to knives that I have I'd pick my Customized Buck 560. This has the model 110 blade, but this one is BG-42. The handle is a finger-grooved slimmed-down 110 shape, but it is made out of titanium. I find the Buck BG-42 to be tough and takes a sharp edge. The 110 has a narrow enough tip for small spaces and enough beef to the blade for larger work. If I was to go out and buy something to replace it I would go to Buck's Pete's Custom Knife shop and get a 110 with a BG-42 blade.

Just about any Strider, or a Commander. I always have one or the other on me in the city, and in the woods. I used to carry small fixed blades when hiking, but I don't feel underknifed with an SMF in my pocket, that's for sure.

My vote goes with the buck/strider spearpoint also. extremely heavy-duty, built like a tank, good steel, heat-treat, and design. I want something I can depend on without a doubt, yet within a reasonable price range.... :D

If it is one that I have, I'll go with my rehandled Cold steel 29 LC

If I can choose:

1. Large Sebenza
2. Benchmade 725

Custom Buck 110 with ATS-34 (a little easier to sharpen than the BG-42).

How about a Buck 183 Alpha Crosslock PBS.
Okay It's got two blades, but it looks like a great survival knife with its saw/guthook 2nd blade.

I got one of those Buck Crosslock PBS Alphas. I was disappointed with the fit and finish. The thumbstuds are stamped on, rather than screwed. The detent on the sawblade didn't work to hold the blade closed. Just seemed like second-rate design and manufacture. I'm not impressed with Buck any more.
