one folder for survival

Another vote for the Buck 110. Tried and true and has earned it's reputation.

Thanks for the pics! Very cool. Hell, I'm impressed they could make any sort of decent shelter in an hour, especially with a folder ;)

Of course there is the large locking SAK's like the rucksak model. That was all I ever used to take bush before I stumbled onto this place. Don't realy need a chopper when you have got that large saw.

Now you are talking. Best answer yet. In an outdoor survival situation a folder like the ruscksak and fireman model have a ton more utility than a sebbie. That article should of included a guy with a rucksak ripping through limbs with the saw. Not bad for $40.

Jim,

Yes, one and same, still abused, still in almost perfect shape. Couple little light marks on the finish, but locks up tight and does whatever I need it to...

I agree with the money being an investment instead of a cost. I also agree with your EDC most likely being the knife you'll have when the situation occurs, so I EDC a large Sebenza. I trust it. I've carried and used, (pretty hard,) a sebenza every day for the last 7 years, (since Jan. 1998.) It has truly earned it's excellent reputation.

Brian,
First of all, thanks for replying. After reading your past posts regarding THAT Magnum folder,I was curious to see:1)if you still had it 2)to see if it still functioned & the liner lock still worked.Be advised,I had to get one after reading your posts, got a NEW in box "old" one with the reg & kydex sheath.
What a MONSTER!!Only response I can give you is "thanks"!
Be safe,
Jim

Another vote for the Doug Ritter Survival Knife (RSK) -- S30V Benchmade Griptilian. This is by far the greatest folder I have owned and used.

Especially when they agree with me! :D I worked for 4 years with disadvantaged youth and carried the small Sebbie everyday. Only had one or two comments about carrying a "weapon" and I was able to handle those with no problem. A large Sebbie might have been a different story. Don't get me wrong, I own a large Woodie and love it but it can't replace my small Sebenza. Like Jason I've carried mine daily for years and years!

To carry in case of emergency is one thing, but to have only one knife with single blade is another. To carry I would prefer something with thin handle because it is more convenient, but for regular cutting, what I believe happens in a survival situation, I would prefer something with a think handle comfortable to cut.
About two months ago I went for walking in woods and compared Victorinox Picnicker with Spyderco Delica. Delica is much better for everyday carry, but when you cut a wood, the handle of Victorinox was much, much better because it was thicker. The rest (steel, how knife was built etc) was not particularly important, except how easy it would be to sharpen your knife in survival situation? If I did not have a sharpener, then I would go for Victorinox, but if I had, then steel for the blade would not make a difference.
So, for me any knife with thick handle would do. I know this is what really matters when you have to use the same knife for a long time.
Regards,
