One for looks, one for work...

Nope. None of my knives are too fancy, expensive, or nice. I'm not a collector. I'm a user.

I often carry more then one knife though. Usually a knife and multi-tool.

They certainly make a lovely couple. When is the wedding?

It will be a small gathering, they just picked out the lanyard bead last night ;)

And I was able to use that Steel Will Tenet a bit today, handles nicely, a little thicker than the Minitor, the clip on the Tenet goes onto the pocket a little better but then it is also a weaker clip though.

And while I maintain this was for good cause, it also was a way to rationalize getting another knife AFTER I had told family and friends that I had found THE knife...but, I am pretty sure they saw straight through that!

The only way I will be done with the idea of "THE KNIFE" is to stop looking altogether at sale threads and knife web sites.
I'd have to give up on BF . Not ready for that. All you nice and interesting people here keep engaging me in conversations and what abouts ... o_O.

Oh well.

I also found THE knife. The knife before I buy anoher one.

Normal people will never understand. They just don’t see knives the way we do. They can’t see how we could possibly want or need another one.

If you bought it to carry and use, then carry it and use it. It's pretty lame to be carrying a good knife and refuse to use it when you need it because you don't want to risk damaging it.
Knife enthusiasts tend to be a bit fickle- we buy knives, decide we don't like them then off they go. I understand that, but at some point we have to pick some knives that we will keep and use no matter what happens to them. Then we can use them and not worry about if they get damaged or not. I've been through all of this and I picked a group of knives that I'm willing to EDC. I'm a bit lucky in that I don't use my knives very hard so there isn't much risk. If I decide to sell one it will be in user condition and not safe queen condition. This lowers the value a little bit but isn't a huge loss.
I'm not reckless with my knife and I don't loan it out so that limits the risk a little bit.

I am lame

No Sir, you're not alone. I carry more than two everyday. Each one has its use niche, so I can use them intensively without any risk of damage : a medium sized thin fixed blade (slicer), a small strong fixed blade (utility cutter), a necker (small strong fixed blade back-up), a folder (steak knife for the restaurant, mainly), a multiblade folder (for the corkscrew and the can opener / nail cleaner, because you never know), a little folder in the purse (back-up for the back-up) and a small Spyderco Slipit on both keyrings (for the giggles...). Am I the nuttiest of the nutters ? I am not that proud but I am very satisfied with this set-up. It works and I have fun with it. I have the pictures (or else it didn't happen) but I don't want to clutter up your thread. Others may have more relevant contributions.

Thanks and sounds like you really have thought it all out well !
and pictures are a must, so please, include when you can!

High carbon steel and ebony scales... what's there not to like ? The curved signature handle of Le Thiers is a bit special, however. I often prefer a straight pattern. But this one, well ... it's just sexy !

If anything, I'm the exact opposite. When I get a new knife, I'm eager to put that thing to use to get that first bit of wear on the blade. Knives to me are tools to be used, and I find nothing better than a nice worn knife.

With me it's not so much one for looks and one for work as it is one for work and one for abuse. I have lots of regular work users that cost anywhere from CRK range to double that and I'm not afraid of a scratch or a mark or a snail trail. On the other hand, there's lots of work situations that would damage a knife or at the least dull it to the extent that it would be useless as a cutter for the rest of the day. Pulling staples, scraping paint or glue, a cut that might hit a knot or nail and chip the blade--that's what the beater's for.

Here are three of my numerous work users that take care of the truly knifely stuff and each have scars to show it.

The beater might be my twice-broken-off Buck Adrenalin or a combo-edged Tenacious or RAT among others.

On the other hand, I do have a few drawer queens, though I'm working on not acquiring any more of those, and have sold a few that I couldn't bear to pocket or use. I also have a number of light users for non-working situations that will take on day-to-day cutting tasks while hopefully avoiding getting scratched up. Those that do end up in the ever-growing work user camp.

herisson, in seeing your Theirs reminded me of mine, what use to be mine, they are very nice and as with all the ones I've owned, I do miss them, here's one in stag that I had not so long ago;

Strong knife and nice stag ! Elegant, too. I remember you had quite a collection of Chambriard.

I had a great passion for those and find myself thinking about another one from time to time, well made folders.

I sharpened up the Steel Will Tenet today and it took a very keen edge, liking this one quite a lot, I also knocked down the corner of the start of the edge so it has a rounded start now, which won't snag on material when you go to cut, always a pet peeve of mine, but this has a small area and with that now having a radius, it cuts well without catching.
