..so I've got one guyot and one gsi SS cup coming from twowolves.. ..and I was setting here today wondering what kind of grub I could make w/ these two items.. ..anyone got any good single person camp recipes they want to share?

I don't know but that thread title scared the crap out of me..... too much internet.... yet I still opened it... lol.

-coffee
-coffee n beans
-coffee n oatmeal
-coffee n noodles
-coffee n ...... coffee

;) ..I spend far too much time in the internets myself and thought the title was kinda catchy.

..I figured I probably knew all I could do w/ it, but there's always people from different areas that use different spices and such that might have a tasty idea.

P.s: google yourself up some Oneguyonecup .. make sure your speakers are on.

The only thing I've done with my GSI cup is tea and coffee. Maybe do some ramen one of these days. I'm well known for my creativity.LOL :D

What the heck are you guys talking about ? I probably don't want to know.....

Mr. Noodles, throw out the satchet and bring a bit mixture of curry powder, dried chives, cumen and chillies. Tastes good.

i think that the nesting cup might be a bit small, i carry a bowl with me (either stainless dog bowl or collapsing silicon bowl), along with a boiling vessel.

i boil the water in my kleen kanteen/billy/etc and add it to the bowl with any of the following:
ramen
cocoa
stovetop rice (can be tricky to cook in the bowl, due to longer cook times-better to actually cook it in a pot. not your bottle! too hard to wash out, in my opinion)

i also like to take those styrofoam cups of ramen, and just add hot water. burn all the packaging, no muss no fuss! very light and easy to prepare if you are going light, fast and simple.

Dehydrated dinners-- spicier ones are more interesting-- pour the hot water in and wait.
Ditto on ramen noodles.
Red beans and rice
Instant oatmeal-- apples & cinnamon

Make a "cozy" from silver bubble-wrap style insulation to fit your pot. It will keep the heat in and you can finish cooking off the stove and save fuel.

I gotta find a plastic lid that will fit a GSI cup.

At first, I thought the idea of a SS cup that fit over the end of a SS water bottle was a cool idea. I even bought one. Then it occured to me that neither cup nor bottle are fun for drinking hot liquids. Also, they won't keep your hot drink hot for very long. Why not carry a lightweight insulated cup instead of the stainless steel one? Do you really need two different ways to boil water? While it's true that the insulated cup isn't going to fit on the end of the bottle, it's just as efficient as long as you pack it with something you need to carry anyway (hot choc, sugar, lighter, whatever. My needs and wants may be different from others.

Here's the cup and bowl I'm going to get. It only weighs 3.4 oz. http://www.backcountry.com/store/GSI0016/GSI-Outdoor-Gourmet-Nesting-Mug-and-Bowl.html

..yeah. I thought about adding a plastic bowl/cup thing for the hot stuff.. I'm just kinda day dreaming about a simple pack where everything fits together nicely for a weekend trip out into the sticks alone.. ..however, someone mentioned using one of those "live strong" wrist straps will fit around the cup to insulate your lips..

..once I get the guyot and cup in hand, I'll have a better idea of what I'm truly dealing with and what will fit in what.. ..I'm sort of inspired to sew my own pouch seeing that these damn nylon pouches I find everywhere are so friggin' expensive.. ..and they never seem to last for as long as I would think after spending that kind of loot. I really want a whole kitchen to fit into one small bag/pouch..

btw: "you'll be safe w/ me; I'm a good screamer" cracked me up..

It's not mine. It's an Andy Barnard line from The Office. :)

I've never tried the band around the metal cup. I keep meaning to pick one up. Besides the SS cup, I also have a titanium cup. By going into enough gas stations, I finally found a sipper coffee cup lid that would fit the titanium one.
No more burned lips and it kept things hot at least a little longer than it would have without it. As for insulating, you can always make a foil cozy for it.

Don't forget the GSI cup was designed to fit a Nalgene bottle, so it does lose some appeal when used with a stainless bottle.

The silicone wrist bands work great for lip guards. The beer-can-pot Esbit stoves use a silicone band.

If you want a good bowl, the Snow Peak titanium bowls are one of the best buys around-- about $13. Drill a couple holes in the rim and add a wire bail and you have a pot too. They weigh all of 1.6 ounces. Add a little foil for a lid-- keeps the heat in and the pine needles and bugs out. There's another one I need to find a plastic lid for.

For an insulated mug, the Alladin mugs are all over the place and one of the lightest too-- about 4 ounces. $4.25 at REI.

Can anybody confirm that the stainless GSI cup from twowolves will fit the current 1L nalgene bottles? I bought one from REI on clearance that did not fit.

man that is a quigly. Contact Lisa and ask her. I know the newer ones are just a mm off which will throw the whole thing off a little bit

and yeah, that title scared me tooo.

I like ramen with a a couple tablespoons of peanut butter and red pepper flakes to make a Thai noodle meal. It is great, especially in cold weather.

+1 on Ramen and Instant Oatmeal. Likewise a box of Kraft Mac'n'Cheese is very packable and works well in that scenario. I keep each of the three along with some instant miso soup packets in my back pack.
