if you could only have one knife for the rest of your life, folder or fixed with a 500$ cap, what would it be? pics welcomed:D

God forbid that would ever happen :O

I guess it would have to be a reliable fixed blade...I don't really know many super high end knives other than the typical ones like the SNG, Sebenza, etc.

I think I'd be fine with Rat Izula :) I could customize the handle wrap if I got really bored of it.

I don't actually even have an Izula because I don't use fixed blades much, so this picture is from the netz:

Right now I would have to say a Rick Hinderer XM 18 non flipper. It would be tough to do that if I ever had to but the XM 18 is one fine folder! THANKS! Kevin

This question is akin to "what's the last blade you'd ever part with". The answer for me is my Swamp Rat Camp Tramp. It occupies the single most important location in my entire knife collection . . . my BOB. And I absolutely, positively, would be willing to bet my life on it or it wouldn't be there.

Well based on the fact that you said a $500 cap but didn't specify that we couldn't imagination our own knife in to existence, I'd take an INFI steel folder with a triad lock with G10 handle scales, titanium liners, with the blade being 4" - 5" in length. :D

I would make myself a fixed blade with a blade about 5" long. Grind would be full flat and thick enough to not be too fragile, but still able to slice efficiently. I would want it to carry well and perform kitchen duties. As much as I like tool steels, I'd want to go stainless, like CPM 154. Maybe desert ironwood for the handle.

To be honest, it would kind of suck for most tasks. Too big for efficient carry, too small for chopping or many kitchen tasks (for example it would be just big enough to cut through a large onion). The grind wouldn't slice well, or it would be too thin to chop with.

I guess there's a reason we own so many different knives, (aside from the fact that they are all awesome to collect). There's no blade that will give me a comfortable shave one minute, and chop through a forest next.

My responses to threads like this must get boring/borderline 'fanboy' but I will never get rid of this knife:

When I die this knife is going to my son. Until then, it stays in my pocket everywhere I go. I honestly believe that this knife is the perfect (in every sense of the word) knife for me.

Wow. Tell me more about it. I looks pretty close to perfect to me, too.

It's a neck knife made by Murray Carter. It's a san mai of Japanese stainless steel and Super Blue carbon steel (RC 63-64), hand forged, tapered tang with maroon micarta handles. It's incredibly easy to sharpen and yet it's held it's edge for an incredibly long time. It would be difficult to explain how functional it feels in your hand, but it's simply an extension of your body when you hold it. Perfect weight, perfect profile, perfect everything. That was when I got it, this is it today:
