One Knife for the rest of your life!!!!!!

It would be my XM-18.

Right now I would have to say a Rick Hinderer XM 18 non flipper. It would be tough to do that if I ever had to but the XM 18 is one fine folder! THANKS! Kevin

Dunno if the $500 cap will cut it or not but put me down for a flipper ! :)

Carry laws, etc aside, I'm going to say my Hinderer FXM - the fixed blade version of the XM-18.

I also will have to say a large fixed blade. Even though it's not used nearly as much as my EDC folders of course. Answer: Fehrman Final Judgement. Bombproof blade, love it.

I'm not very hard on my knives so I guess I'll have to go with my Keith Coleman custom or my Benchmade 440.

Of course my Benchmade 705 Forum knife would work out quite nicely too.

One of those three knives.

If I could only have one knife I'd definitely go with a fixed blade, and I think I'd choose the Fallkniven NL5 Idun.

I'd choose a folder and this hypothetical scenario would probably be the straw that broke my Sebenza buying back.

If, God forbid, I were relegated to one single knife for the rest of my life for $500 or less I'd probably choose a folder for everyday practicality (IMHO) and would probably give serious consideration to a large Sebenza primarily for the ease of disassembly, the tight tolerances, its reputation, its simple, sexy looks and foremost, the fact that I can send her in for a spa treatment after a period of use to make her all better again for the life of the knife.

That said, I have never owned one yet.

If I could get my CAD fixed blade concept in S90V or CTS-XHP and green canvas micarta or tan G10.

But for real knives, a stainless Bark River Fox River.

Dkw sandshark, when they were in production i think they were around 500. I may be wrong.

I am pretty happy with my bk-11. I may try an izula soon so we will see. But a small fixed blade the bk-11 batons, carves, does fine work, food (open handles help with this in my opinion due to cleaning), and sharpens very easily.

As much as I like my folders from xm18 to Striders to Benchmades to Spyderco's to Bokers, if it has to be the only one it would be a fixed, as we all know that if a folder breaks it will be almost useless.
And if this is the only one, it has to be useful for all kind of jobs, so it can not be a large blade no matter how I like it...
It also can not be a very thick blade, as it has to be good in the kitchen perhaps more so than elsewhere..
And it has to be made of tough steel, so I need not to worry...
And it has to be the best ergos for me..

So given all the above from what I have it is the one on the left:
