one knife to own or one knife to carry? and would you have an unlimited supply of this knife if it broke or would you just have to live with a broken knife for the rest of your life? i'd probably go with a whittler pattern folder.... 3 blades for different grinds and shapes. anything over 3 inches is too big anyway, and only provides mediocre (depending on the blade shape i suppose) chopping capabilities (just carry a hatchet/axe instead ) and perhaps a little more ease of skinning and cutting meat.
While I might be able to pick one EDC and stick with it (but I'm not going to!) there's no way I'd be able to limit myself to one knife for everything if we're including hunting, camping and kitchen use. I'd have a really hard time carving a ham or turkey with a pocket knife and I'd get really funny looks at work if I walked in carrying a carving knife!
