before i was thinking about getting a sub $100 knife just in case i used it and it broke, i wouldnt feel too bad due to the cost. Now im thinking i will rarely use a knife in a way to break it that is beyond a companys warranty. So why not get one really great knife and not look for anything else.

I am looking into folders in the $300-400 range. What would you suggest.

some features im looking for:

- folder design
- will be carried
- blade less than 4 inches.
- strongest steel available (stainless is not important)
- preferably frame lock (dont trust liners so much)
- No frills and designs. Im looking for a KISS knife
- Knife that would last me a lifetime
- plain edge

i hope this helps you guys into giving me suggestions. Ive looked so much into these knives lately, im going crazy i cant decide with one knife only. I want to keep it at one knife orelse i will go broke buying everything i want. Yet, i dont have enough experience with all these different knives, hence looking for help from you guys.

thanks

I would get a used Sebenza or Strider SMF or SNG.

or if I bought new something from the ZT line

I say look into CRK. I own 2 Small Sebenzas and love them!

sounds like a CRK sebenza will fit the bill, and they retain their value very well.

Those criteria with that price range... Sebenza.

As others have said: a Sebenza fits your requirements pretty well (small Sebenza is easier EDC-able in posh environments), but I would also have a look at the Spyderco Sage 2. It is pretty close in quality to a small Sebenza for half the price. The last steps towards utmost precision cost indeed quite a bit more to realise, and for many the Sage 2 may be perfectly nice enough.

The AG Russell Acies is an alternative to the Sebenza and has better steel in my opinion.

Or you could check out this bad boy which is made from one solid chunk of titanium. It does have some unique features like a replaceable lock bar tip so you can actually fix the knife yourself if it the lock bar ever wears enough to cause blade play. It has happened to me and at that point you have to rely on the manufacturer being there to fix it. Also has the 'rotoblock' which you turn and it locks the lock bar in place making the knife essentially a fixed blade. Don't have to worry about the lock failing if using it. The screw that holds the deep carry pocket clip on is pointed to act as a glass breaker. It is a very shallow cone so it shouldn't be uncomfortable. Anyways it is the Italian make Lionsteel SR-1:

Great suggestions already. You might want to look at www.swordcane.com

A lifetime warranty and the nice thing is since Trevor makes these knives himself you can talk to him and tell what you are going to use your knife for....if you wait till tomorrow I might just have a surprise for you regarding a nice thick liner (more of a frame lock IMO)

Hi modenari -

I think you would love an A.G. Russell Acies - and since they only made 600 of them, you won't see everyone else with one....

Additionally, the Acies has what no other blade listed here so far has... ZDP-189.......

Some one should go out on a limb and recommend a Sebenza again.

Mqqn thanks for the heads up on that little folder, interesting and a breath of fresh air.
