One knife only

I would never pick a folder as a Only knife.

Same here. If I am limited to one knife, it would be a fixed blade. Probably a Busse. There's not a folder in the world that can take the abuse that a 1/4" thick Busse can take, and the warranty is awesome. Lots of different models and sizes available in the for sale forum.

To each his own. I wouldn't own a fixed blade as a only knife. I cut things and like something that is easy to carry in my pocket and can be concealed easily if need be. I live in a modern world and not by myself on the side of a mountain in a post apocalyptic world. I have one fixed blade and have never used the thing. If I need something to abuse I will go grab a crow bar or sledge hammer from the shop, not a sharpened piece of metal. Everyone's needs are different. Just because you would rather have a fixed blade doesn't mean there aren't lots of people who would rather have a nice folder.

Tough knife? I'd put money on a saber ground endura being tougher than a seb and a 1/4 the price. Not hating the seb but its more of a looker than a user.

A knife does not need to cost a lot to be tough it just needs the right design.

blasphemy!

Small Sebenza 21. It's great size for EDC(unless you have huge hands),will last forever, comes with tool to take it apart and clean it and it's the easiest to reassemble of any knife I've ever seen, original and still the best framelock IMO,you can beat the crap out of it and CRK will refurb for a low cost, very tough design but still pocket friendly,Great f&f,smooth pivot action, great customer service and it's relatively sheeple friendly. IMO the Sebenza just can't be beat by production or custom knives IMO. Every custom I ever get is great but they just don't have all the things going for them that the Sebenza does.

EDIT if I could pick just one knife for EDC of the knives I own it would probably be my BG42 Mnandi because it's more than enough for my uses.

looks like alot of you are leading towards the sebenaza. That was on top of my list of choices, and how you guys praise it, makes it seem like its bulletproof. Which is essentially what im looking for. 1 nice heavy duty nice folder.

I have several very nice knives. If I could have only one it would be my Sebenza.

I guess I don't live in the real world, I never have to cut things with my knives, and can't conceal a fixed blade.

Even though I do all of the above every day.

The thing is... I've broken at one time or another almost every folding knife I've ever owned. Hell... they START OUT broken. I've still got a few, but won't use them for anything rougher than cutting clamshell packaging. But if all you're ever going to need to do with a knife is cut string, tape and clamshell packages, then a folder's not bad.

I guess I also didn't realize that one has to live in a post-apocalyptic world in order to go camping once in a while and maybe baton some firewood. Stupid me.:rolleyes:

In what way? Just curious.

Mainly the steel and the blade grind, some may also say the lock. S30V is not nearly as tough as VG-10 in the real world and the thick saber ground blade would be stronger than the hollow ground blade of the seb. Now if your just talking about purely cutting then yes the S30V is better. Like I said I got nothing against the seb, its a finely crafted piece like a swiss watch but what is it going to do that a millie or Ti sage can't, besides look good? A daily carry knife is for performance first and looks second IMO and IMO a seb is a special occasion carry knife because it is so nice. I think of it like most would think of a really nice car, keep it covered and put away until a nice day :)

And to the OP, good luck with trying to have just one knife ;)

Honestly, nothing from the production knife companies will let you down if used right. I'd take a Spyderco Gayle Bradley as my only knife, but a lefty Sebenza would be downright nice too. Just don't like Ti that much.

My preference for a fixed blade if I only had one knife is not so much toughness as length, if I only had one knife it would have to have a minimum blade length of 6 inches, lots of food prep while camping. Folders with blades that long are mostly to heavy and clumsy. JMO

Since no one has said it yet I’d say you would be happy with a Sebenza…:p

Seriously though it’s not widely considered to be among the best folding knives ever made for no reason, you simply can’t go wrong with it.

While I don’t have one the Acies also looks like an amazing knife. I can agree with everything MQQN said, good looking, great pocket clip, lock bar stop, ZDP made by Kershaw (they seem to have ZDP down to an art form), and limited to 600 pieces so it’s more “special” then the Sebebza.

If you don’t mind the size and weight the ZT 0300 knives are exception tools for the money.

Also in your price range you could get yourself a custom. May makers here on BFC have great stuff in your price range.

:rolleyes::rolleyes: - Don't you love those little guys?

I was talking about myself. I said nothing about you or anyone else. If you can't see that every person is not going to have the same needs as you and that many people live where it is not feasible to carry around a fixed blade or that some might just like a folder better, then I don't know what to tell you. That is too bad every folder you have got has been broken to start with because everyone I have is a great mix of engineering, strong lock, and has great steel that holds an edge for a long time. When I go camping I don't need to cut wood up into little pieces. I throw a branch on and let it burn up and then throw the rest on. Works great.

See that is a good reason why a fixed blade knife is good for you. I don't like to use big blades in the kitchen and I usually don't use a knife with a blade over 4 inches and usually more around 3". Maybe every 1 time in 20 I will grab an 8" chef knife to do something but it is not often. Heck I process a few animals every year to fill up the freezer and I can gut, skin, quarter, and debone a deer, pig, or alligator with a 3.5" folder which is what I do year after year.

Everyone has different needs and preferences. That is all I was trying to say. I will stick with my M4 Benchmade Rift as my one and only knife. I have said it many times on here, it is my perfect knife and I would not trade it for any other knife regardless of money. That's why I have 3 of them and there were only 50 made.

Available for trade: 550HG Griptilian, large and small Ritter grip,

Have you had some sort of "event" in your life FlaMtnBkr? Getting rid of your Grips??

I hear what you're saying but I have seen people batoning Small Sebenzas through wood and such. I think for any use a folder would be used for a Sebenza would be more than tough enough. As for a special occassion folder I personally like to use them a lot because out of all my production knives it's the only one the manufacturer will refurb once I scratch it all up and what not.

I hear what you're saying and I understand not everyone may see it the same way and I'm not trying to argue just stating my opinion. I think the S30V should be a little harder in their knives is my only compaint but I solved that probl by getting older BG42 models and having a M4 replacement blade made.

Yeah the event was getting my M4 Rift! :D:D

They are just knives that I bought or got in trade that are brand new and I have never needed to use them. I have some of the M4 Ritter grips coming so figured I don't need the regular S30V ones. Might as well get rid of them and try something else instead. I still have a couple user grips so I won't be without.

I hear ya, everyone's been buzzing about them. I photographed 2 large Grips yesterday that I've never used except to flick 'em open and check them out. A Blue Class Pardue and a Black Box RSK MK1. 154CM & S30V respectively.

I couldn't bring myself to post & try to sell the darn things - tossed my camera bag in the drawer, in disgust over my attachment to the darn things!

I can't recall the member - I think it's the one with the teddy bear avatar, (a good guy) claims he can baton wood with them and beat BLUNTTRUTH's 5 minute time in cutting the 3"x4" pice of lumber using a Griptilian and not an Izula. Maybe they'll save my live some day....:D
