One knife to survive

I had one of those and got rid of it. Wasn’t heavy enough to be a chopper.
And was mediocre as a knife. I also thought the sheath was overkill.
If I could only take one knife it would probably be my kukri.

To each their own. I like the weight and size. It reminds me of a smaller sugar cane knife my dad used to use when he worked at the sugar plantation on Maui. Also the darn thing is sharp. I'm sure if this was the only survival knife I could have I can make this work. As for defensive weapons goes, I'm not a knife fighter so I'd look at my Glock 19G3 for self defense. Ha!

I didn't know what a zombie apocalypse was. I never watch TV. So I had to google it:

A zombie apocalypse is a particular scenario within apocalyptic fiction. In a zombie apocalypse, a widespread rise of zombies hostile to human life engages in a general assault on civilization.

Like BeyondTheBox, the Terava JP 140, as it's one of the most realistic do-all one-tool options; but it would be in addition to my EDC tools I always have on me - a Leatherman Rebar and a Laguiole pocketknife in sheaths on my belt and some small stuff in my pants pockets. Indeed, if shit happens it will come unexpectedly, and you'd never be limited to only one tool, that would be a deliberate scenario. In many cases your favorite fixed blade will not be within reach and you'll have to make do with whatever is available. That may be just a simple Mora backup knife in the car toolbox or the fixed blade(s) you keep in your backpack or bugout bag.

Buck 110 or Buck 112 or Buck 301.
Along with my bow, some arrows, my fishing gear, and an axe, any of these three will do everything I'd need a knife for.

Reviewer takes...

Nutnfancy: too heavy, can’t fit it in a fanny pack. Too expensive. Not recommended, dudes.

Nick Shabazz: hey, whoa, WHOA. It’s got a usable blade shape, so that’s a beautiful thing. The guard sticks out a bit too far, so it’s kind of a belt pecker.

Skelton: something something Bodega something something mokuti Something something action

theapostlep: 15 degrees per side, 20 degree per side micro bevel, cut some phone book pages the word is sharp! Comfortable in reverse grip.

Some 13 year old: no rainbow finish, not a karambit, mom will buy me one, anyway. Saw it on Bud’s for $10.

Doctor Frunkey: let’s break it down anatomically. This knife is HUNG... from a belt, because it doesn’t have a pocket clip.

Eugene Kwon: accidentally murdered the dashboard and the engine block, re-recording soon.

Cedric & Ada: testing edge retention by cutting through picnic tables. This one cut 193 tables before it was too dull to cut paper.

Ka-bar big brother. straight edge with proper serrations on top. None of those massive teeth you find on the tacticool knives. Cuts wood better than any other knife I've had. I get the feeling in an apocalyptic setting, a knife would be more useful against hostile wildlife than a human. A full slash at the throat will drop almost anything native near me. I'd also take a bow because if you think I'm giving away my position to take a shot, you're kidding yourself. If I can't stay out of sight and earshot, whatever I'm doing is done and I'm booking it. Even if I could take a rifle, I'd rather not get in a shootout if I can get close and finish my business quietly

Ka-bar big brother.

My friend had one of those.
Two or three chops into wood and the tang bent enough to see a nice gap at the guard. :D
He does not own it anymore. ;)

The tang is sufficient for the regular size Ka-Bar, but not on that huge bladed monstrosity.
They should have increased the size of the tang.

It looked pretty neat though.

That's odd. I whacked the crap out of it with a piece of wood batoning it. Aside from some scratches on the coat, it's in perfect shape. How long ago did your friend have one? If it's been a while, maybe they changed something in the steel they use for it or the heat treat. Although, the wood handle has been a lot darker in color since I came back from that trip. If I manage to break it, I'll post it

I don’t know about the rest of you but if I was given the choice I think I prefer an axe over a knife but since we’re going with knives I’ll pick a Victorianox Pioneer/soldier

I fully agree.... More specifically, as far as the Terava is concerned: it is simple, strong, reliable, effective...

Busse Team Gemini - Battle Grade (because I wasn't lucky enough to get a TGLB when they were offered, damnit....and I'm not paying $600 for one).

It's a good mix of a lot of things I'd want if I only had 1 knife. I'm also pretty convinced that if you can break a team gemini you must be he-man or the hulk. Beast of a blade.

I have 4 fixed blades. An Ontario Pilot Knife, a SOG Mini Seal Pup Elite, a Cold Steel Bush Ranger and a Randall Model 14.
The Randall comes with and all others left behind.

I love a lot of my fixed blades but I'd probably narrow it down to my Busse TGLB or NMSFO

Honorable short tank mention: Becker bk2
