So if the poop hit the fan, what one blade would you want available? I'm talking you already have a rifle and a pistol backup, and you're grabbing a primary defensive backup blade.

So regardless of brand, folding or fixed, what do you grab?

Thanks. I fully expected a backhand. Did a quick scan and that one didn't catch my
eye for some reason.

Hey, no worries. I gave you the link, because from your post, I felt there were multiple threads in there that I thought you'd find interesting to read. Now, when you settle on a couple of knives you want to know more about or want to ask if anyone here has, then definitely come back to this section and post up!

Welcome to the Board!

Yep. Mods, feel free to nuke this. "Community" discussion as opposed to General Knife isn't necessarily intuitive to some people (me) being new here and pondering tactical options.

Thanks again.

But on the specific model question, what had me thinking about this was Emerson knives. I'm intrigued by the take-down, simple hardware design. I want one when I read the sales pitch, then the quality questions put me on the fence. Then I ask myself why I would really want it (CQC-7V in this case), and off to la la land I go daydreaming...

No worries, man. I would recommend dropping by to the Emerson sub-forum then. Ask some questions, read some threads, and learn some info.

@Quiet, I wish I could use that Prac Tac link for SD

As mentioned above, this topic is a been there, done that. However, for posterity's sake, I will oblige you.

I'd grab my ESEE 5. It will take an army of adamantium clad tanks to stop it. If it had to be a folder, it'd be a toss up between the ZT0801, Gayle Bradley, and the TSF Beast.

As much as it pains me, a BK-9 and maybe a spare. I don't own one actually. The one in my pocket is the one I am most likely to have and use. Lately that means a ZT-0770CF and a SAK. If I had time, I would strap on my Dozier Pro Guides knife. I am not into choosing knives for defensive purposes.

Yeah, this kind of thing gets talked about a lot. The Kabar Becker BK-2 or ESEE-5 or 6 are common choices.

wow.. nobody has thrown the "only a Bussey will do" around yet. impressed

Oh snap, I hear Antdog on his way to show us pics of his sweet new sword*.

*Which is super awesome and I'm considering taking a trip to come rob his house for it. LOL

Been there done that but regardless; get a smachete because the SHTF scenario might include zombie nazis...

If I have a rifle AND a pistol, my blade is not going to be one that has been designed primarily for SD. It's going to be a blade designed to do the everyday cutting tasks that knives do. Something like a Civilian is gonna be practically worthless. A Vic Super Tinker is gonna kick it's butt down the street.

KaBar USMC would be my first grab. Maybe bolo or khukuri with the other hand. Hopefully I'd already have chosen a heavy folder for the day.

7" blade with semi-drop point, non-slip handle with metal end plate and small guard, blade point very slightly rounded off, steel rather mild than hard- better chance to come out of a fight with a bended blade as with a broken one.

Since you said defensive, I'd probably go with my 8" Condor Hudson Bay. It's a soft, high carbon steel that is easy to sharpen and takes a crazy edge, plus I could do just about everything with it. My medium blade choice would be my Bark River Aurora, in 3V (again, can do just about anything with it). My small knife would be my Bradford Guardian 3, in M390.
