One Knife...when it counts...

Oh snap, I hear Antdog on his way to show us pics of his sweet new sword*.

*Which is super awesome and I'm considering taking a trip to come rob his house for it. LOL

Hey now! I'm beginning to think the damn thing is more trouble than it's worth! I'll let you borrow it bro!

LOL Good times, brother!

Honestly, I've never actually seen folks holding one. I always thought it was...well, longer. But I see now that the Ruckee is really a sort of in-close fighting implement. I imagine it'd work great as a machete, which you said you were going to use it as in the other thread, no? Should do the trick pretty well, I'd think!

I think you're dead on brother! Should work great. I expect good things out of it - but most of all just having a little fun!

It is a lot shorter than I was thinking. It's hard to wrap your head around numbers and specs and pictures sometimes.

In hand, it feels short/but still long, "schlong" if you will, LOL! It feels short, sleek, deadly. And the thing just oooozes quality, and the promise of lots of enjoyment. :)

Depends on whats on my grab and go belt and gear. At the moment a Martin knives 7inch blade, sometimes a Busse tglb.

Or it might be this one Martin knives again only a 9.5inch blade instead.

CRKT Ultima 7, mainly because of blade length/shape and the sheath. If I was wearing a pack or vest with MOLLE webbing, maybe a Gerber Yari II and/or Benchmade Adamas 275 just for fun.

Huh that's what the g/f says about my schlong too! But quality is not what it oozes.

Honestly, in a SHTF scenario I would probably want a simple scandi ground blade designed daily use. I wouldn't want a pry bar with a sharpened edge or a monster combat knife, because most of the time they just don't make ideal cutting tools. Just a good quality puukko style knife to perform daily cutting chores reliably, doesn't even matter if its a stick, hidden, or rat tang. If I have a carbine and a sidearm then I have my defensive needs taken care of. I would be entirely focused on the utility side of a knife. One that can cut and shape wood as well as cut meat off bone and other stuff like that. Sure a scandi grind isn't the best food prep knife but it will do the job, while doing other jobs like carve wood exceedingly well.

I'd probably choose something like an EnZo trapper or nordic, Helle Odel, Mora anything, Kellam Puukko, Ahti Vaara, Spyderco Bushcraft, etc. As long as it has a simple carbon steel or simple stainless steel that I can easily field maintain, a simple blade geometry, a scandi grind, a good heat treat, and a comfortable handle I'm good to go.

This has seen lots of action over the last 30 years, trust my life to it has never let me down! I always like to see what others would carry, great post.

Probably my grail knife, which is a total beast. The Blackheart Valkyrie Bowie. The Blackheart Gunner-10 or 12 would work too. These knives can take anything.
