One Knife...when it counts...

I would prefer a benchmade 162, but if I have to grab what I own right now, I would reach for a Ontario pilot knife or my fathers old clip point hunting knife. If I could grab a second knife, a Vic SAK Soldier would be on my short list for consideration.

I am begining to feel that one knife is not enough.

I guess I could make any of these work...

Buck Punk. Extremely light weight, strong 5160 steel, excellent usable blade length, holds a great edge, and easily re-sharpened in the field.

Probably just a ka-bar. But really my Mora companion is fine. And a spare mag that would make up the weight difference between a Mora and a bigger, heavier knife.

Have to be a fixed blade, otherwise would be one of my Emersons due to the immediate opening ability.

Either my My7 Lionsteel for versatility, or Emerson Super Commander for portability and ability.

fixed blade all the way for me too

This one has been with me for a few years and has done a fair bit it shouldn't have so I think I'd bring it along on my next adventure too.

P.S. sorry about the crappy pic... it's pretty old

Ahhhh, since there may be zombies involved and since their brains are fried, I think my Blackjack 1-7 would work nicely. The fried brains are important as I am no knife fighter. I need an edge.

...you already have a rifle and a pistol backup, and you're grabbing a primary defensive backup ...

I was going to say my Super Commander. However I think a Cold Steel Recon 1 or an Emerson Tiger would give me additional stabbing capability.

The bm 162 rocks I'd go with that as well

Becker bk9 for fixed blade and a zt 0200 for a folder. No question a out either ones capability.

Weight will be an issue (perhaps the primary issue) when it counts. If you have to carry a gtw (go to war) rig consisting of a rifle and a pistol you are already greatly encumbered. Add to that all the food, water, shelter, and starting-over-somewhere-else items and you can pretty much forget about anything bigger than a SAK. I am not ditching my sleeping system and I am not ditching my legal paperwork. Not going to happen. If you have to move fast that extra knife will be bad weight.

My advice is to put the heavy car camping gear (saws/hatchets/dutch ovens/bowie knife/canvas tent/chairs/coolers/tarps/etc) in the car or near the car and leave it there. Have a compact self contained fighting rig set up if you feel you need one and have a 3 + day backpacking kit with important paperwork set up that will work together with the fighting rig. If you want tools/shelter for the fighting rig pack a poncho and some insulation. :D

tl;dr
Get a SAK

I'll go with one of my case peanuts, If I already have a rifle and pistol then im all good. Besides, every time this scenario pops ups its tactical this and that, a peanut would be a real challenge. But because im limited on batoning I can just blast the wood into a fire:D
