One knife?

I would get a Victorinox rucksack.
Its blade is about the with as a butter knife and stake knife, witch I use way more often then I use a blade in the woods.
While a big or thick blade is nice running around the woods, its not a good choice when you ask the wife out for dinner in a fancy restaurant and you need to cut your food.

I'd choose a chefs knife, because I use a knife to prepare meals more than anything else.

It depends on what the prospects are. In case of a total falldown of civilization I would take my Fehrman EJ. In case I have to move to Amsterdam West (a bad, crime-infested neighborhood with a large, hostile, m***** community) I would take my favourite combat tool Extrema Ratio Col Moshin. Otherwise I'll choose my trusted companion, my Fällkniven F1. What friends do you need when you have a F1, huh?

Thanks for all the replies so far. For those reading along, lets change things up a bit: Assume you didnt have any knives, and some generous soul offered to buy you ANY knife you wanted, what would you get?

If saks and multi-tools are included in this I would choose my Victorinox fieldmaster. It is the perfect sak imho and choosing it is a no brainer for me.
If saks and multi-tools are not included in this I would I would choose my Case 61048 slim-line trapper in dark red bone with the CV blade. I just really like this knife.
If someone would buy me any knife that I wanted I guess I would ask for a ten dot, 1970 , Case 6254 with red bone scales and carbon steel blades.

I'd probably go with the knife I have carried for 15 years-- Spyderco Endura, but I would get one in an updated steel, maybe waved.
