One multi-tool (Leatherman, SAK, etc.) for survival.

Swisstool without a doubt. By far the toughest and most dependable multitool on the planet.

I would have to go with the Leatherman Wave. A huge deal for me is the diamond file. This would allow me to maintain many useful tools like knives, axes and saws. Not to mention the many other uses for a good file. Nail care, crude tool making and modifying, etc

I keep a full sized Leatherman in my daypack (Blast) and a 3"+ single blade knife in my RFP all the time so that's what I minimally have nearly all the time.

I also keep a folding stove, folding saw and a fixed blade knife in my car.

I would grab the Leatherman Surge. It offers some impressive utility functions and I can store a ferro rod, Streamlight Microstream, diamond file, 42piece bit kit and 4 Bosch saw blades for wood and metal in the sheath, fairly compactly infact. I love the SAKs but full size pliers and cutters are a necessity for me. Heavy duty fence wire has 1000 uses the pliers and cutters allow, and it could be a real life saver if your operating a vehicle or generator that needs repair. In Urban environments the pliers allow you to break into things or places, break glass, disassemble machines etc. I also really like how large and heavy duty it is. It can be used as a hammer if needed and the large plain blade is very sturdy and locks open allowing it to be used safely for self defense.

Right now I'd be grabbing my Leatherman Signal. It's got a fire steel, whistle, saw, blade, diamond sharpener, and the usual set of screwdrivers and other tools. On it. Really a very versatile tool in an easy to carry package.

Me too..do not have the signal, I will be purchasing one soon.

I'm really trying to narrow things down to one tool for edc and camping/survival. The holy grail of multi-tools.

Victorinox One Hand Trekker or Leatherman (Charge, Surge, or Wave). I realize it comes down to personal preference more than anything else, but what would you choose if you had to completely rely on one of these options?

If there can only be one: the Swisstool will cover the most bases.
Or the leatherman wave...or the....I think it's pretty safe to say leatherman and victorinox are the front runners. What's your(op) personal preference? Make the choice based on that and you will be happy

My Leatherman Wave is always on my belt, so that's what I'd have with me. There is also a folder in my front pocket at all times. Right now its a Case Copperlock in a homemade pocket slip.

I'd grab my Leatherman Charge TTi. That with a fixed blade can swing almost any task I need.

I would carry a Victorinox One Hand Trekker, it has a large OHO blade, all relevant tools for outdoor use(long saw, can/bottle opener, large flathead good for light prying, awl, etc) and not to mention it is relatively light in weight compared to pliers-based MT.

agreed- this is what I keep in my small get home bag in my vehicle

I find this topic quite interesting. I own a couple of multitools but find them unwieldy and of limited use. I own quite a few of the older camp utility knives ("scout knife") and some "SAK" types as well and seldom carry one. Most of the tasks I have encountered over the years when away from my tool box can be accomplished with a pocket knife (stockman etc) and/or a sheath knife. So I suppose it boils down to personal preferences more than what is required for "survival".

I go nowhere with out a SAK I carry a pioneer for work farmer most everywhere else I have two 2nd gen gerber multi-pliers that are both replacements for worn out originals from when I worked service I have a leatherman freestyle with the premium steel non serrated blade work bought I carry a multi tool for work . Every couple of years they will buy us a new multi-tool I just got a leatherman crunch it is the most capable tool I have had combined with the nylon belt pouch I carry a 4" adjustable wrench and a mini prybar I can do a lot with out going for my cart

For me there's no rush. I have a knife in my pocket. On my belt I have a multi tool pouch.

In an emergency you don't want parts. Drop that one bit you need? Ha!

Drop your multi tool? There it is!
