I've bought from 1SKS and quite a few other internet companies before, mainly because the local "knife" shops don't carry the stuff I want (possibly with the exception of the more commmon Spyderco knives).
1SKS is almost a pleasure to deal with. Understand that they are a small company and that with their phenomenal growth, they have not been able to keep pace with demands on manpower.
I do not want to go into details here, though you can email me if you want it. Suffice to say that they had difficulty answering emails. Sometimes I would write them, wait for several days with no reply then write them again before getting a reply.
The other point that detracted from their customer service was that they did not tell me that they were out of stock of one of the items when I first emailed them with the order. Understandably, they did not have my money in hand, nor a credit card number, so someone else may have purchased that last knife while my money order was in transit. As a result, I had to wait about 3 months before receiving my order.
On receiving my money order, they didn't tell me about it being out of stock. 2 anxious weeks later with no sign of my order, I wrote them asking if they had got it. No answer. A few days after that, I wrote again and finally received a reply to tell me that they were awaiting new stock. But they neglected to tell me about the expected waiting time.
So after what I thought was a decent interval (2 weeks), I wrote them again asking about the status of the order. Let's just say that many times I had to write twice before I would get a reply. But finally, after a long, anxious and frustrating wait, I finally received my order. And everything was as prescribed and in good condition. Nothing missing. I believe Mike may even have opened up the Kershaw Boa I ordered to check that the mechanism was in good tune, as evidenced by the broken seal on the plastic wrapper.
Anyway, as I said, they are good, almost a pleasure to deal with but there are some points for improvement. And you have to try and be really patient when dealing with them, seeing that they are understaffed and can't afford to hire more people since they also have to run this forum.
