One Year With The Spartan Harsey Folder

There is no bloody way, that a knife of thisnprice should be anything but perfect. Regardless of fancy handle or not, the same amount of care and craftsmanship should be imparted on every knife that leaves the factory. Zero excuses. Absolutely zero.

These knives although impressive, are only 75% complete. They lack certain features that would set them apart.
Perfection?

People aren't perfect, except for a few days in their life.

Don't change your expectations. Change your goals.

My Pallas is 'off center'. Not what I expected. I changed my goal from EDC to beater knife. The S45VN has held up well. It's got some patina. Which I like.

Once you get these broken in… they just get better.

I think I’ve had about 5 of these since they first dropped. I’ll admit that initially I did expect a little more for the price point. I sold a few just to buy another, again and again. I’ve actually grown to appreciate the simplicity of these. They don’t clog with dirt, they sharpen easily, they carry well, the aesthetics are definitely up my alley. No doubt there is competition at this price.. Les George, Chris Reeve and Spartan SHF have become some of my absolute favorites.

Did you try disassembly and reassemble? Mine went right back to centered upon reassembly with just a slight turn of the pivot screw.

I wrestled with it.

Like me vs Mankind and The Undertaker in a steel cage match.

So much so, I felt like the warranty should be voided.

Hence, a beater knife.

[I'll admit my disassembly and reassembly skills need improvement. ]

Fair enough 😂 it's a heck of a knife and should make an awesome beater 😁

OK, I owe this thread an update:
After my kinda disappointing experience with my new SHF, I did what a lot of you suggested and contacted them via phone. They could not have been nicer. I was sent a pre-paid sticker via email and had my knife off in the mail right before the Labor Day holiday. The tracking number gave me step by step location, and it landed on their doorstep that weekend. I literally just got it back in my hands today. Not bad at all.

Everyone of the issues was fixed. The blade is centered, the action is nearly CRK smooth, the edge has been evened up.

When I got it back, i got not only the normal sticker swag, but they threw in a cool truckers cap style hat:) Very nice touch.

So I want to thank everyone who suggested I give them a call. They more than made things right. Anyone who has had an issue with their Spartan just needs to contact them. It was pretty painless.
I've got three of their products, and this little bit of fantastic CS was enough to pretty much make them my go-to brand at that price range.

The only "issue", the thumb stud came back loose from where they must have taken it off to put it on the sharpening guide. a bit of thread lock and she'll be alright ;)

That's a sweet hat!

I agree! I generally only wear a hat to the gym, and this one is US made and the company owned by vets. I commend Spartan for putting their money where their mouth is and sticking with a domestic vendor.

The logo is Velcro so one could easily affix whatever patch they want should they decide to. Well made and comfortable. It's a small touch that I know wasn't as cheap as it could have been.

I'm not much of a camo kind of guy, but the gesture is not lost on me. Consider me very impressed, and I very much on team Spartan given this level of CS. A little bit goes a long way to earn my loyalty. This one was a cut above. I told Spartan I would sin their praises, so here I am keeping my word.

Yep, Spartan is one of those companies that the more you get to know and interact with them, the more you want to support them! I have had some excellent interactions with their CS as well, and that is part of the reason why I'm up to 11 SHFs now 😂

I'm so glad that they took care of you so well!

I have plenty of Spartan SHF as well; but I'm fortunate that all of them have been stellar from the beginning - one is a large SHF "Spartan Babe" in S45VN, another large "Babe" in Chad Nichols Damascus, and a small Babe in S45VN, then a large Plague Doctor in S45VN and a Limited Edition #2/33 Grim Reaper SHF, and finally a pair of small SHF in Damascus. That's 4 large and 3 small SHF. I also have a Pallas in DLC that is great, and an Astor budget model.

I'd love to see a group photo of your "Babes" 😁

Any SHF fans happen to have a Warthog model that shows how the anodization holds up after a few months? Or if not a Warthog, another variant with a lot of anodization coverage like the Plague Doctor?

I've been circling a SHF for ages, but I don't have much experience with anodized handles.

The only wear I have seen on my anodizing is actual scratches. The anodizing is pretty robust in my experience. I have a watch handle that still looks almost new, and it has seen some pocket time.
