I've read a statement recently by Ken Onion saying that as of June 2008 he no longer works for Kershaw. I'm sure of my source and that this is true. I don't know if he will be freelancing for Kershaw or whether he will be going out on his own. What my question is, is this; how many if any (Pack Rat not withstanding) Onion designed knives are in the works from Kershaw? I have some idea how long it takes from concept to actual production so I'm hoping that a couple of his designs are going to see a Kershaw light of day. I ask this as I'm a Ken Onion designed/Kershaw manufactured knife fan.
Cheers,
Rob

Care to share this "source" that you're so sure of??? News to me.

Ken himself stated that. Here's a direct quote from that other place:

(name deleted)As per june 30,2008 I am no longer with Kershaw . I am currently taking a little break and regrouping ,and focusing on a new line up of products.

He also followed up with this:

Thanks for the encouragement guys! There are several things to concider and a ton of work ahead. Not absolutly sure what direction to go but I'm a dreamer and I'm sure It will be a lot of fun. I hope to scout some great, diverse and innovative knifemaker talent as soon as everything is in place.

The above quotes from Ken were what I was referring to. Thanks for posting them Rick. I didn't know how to introduce the subject as this has been public knowledge for about 10+ days now, at least on another site that doesn't have a Kershaw forum. So I asked here, I don't mean to piss on any ones parade or take the jam outta any ones donut but I'm a fan of Ken's designs and a fan of how Kershaw executed (executes?) those designs. I do find it strange that people would think I would lie about this, as if it would serve me well to do so.

KO is, on average, my favorite designer in the industry. I'm not saying I love all his designs etc etc, but when he gets a hit, it's out of the park in my opinion.

So then this is all true? Kershaw/KO cooperation in the future is, at best, uncertain?

I love a lot of non-KO Kershaws too, but again, 90% of the time, my favs are KOs.

haha, Thanks Ken for the response

i type way to slow.

Ken, could you elaborate any on this? If not, then no big deal

Ken, just tell me one thing:

Kershaw will continue making every flavor of leek that they can conceive.

Otherwise, my bank balance will probably be in the positive for some time to come.

Ken,

I have enjoyed many (maybe most?) of your designs over the years, and I can respect the fact that things change over the years, and people take different routes in their business decisions.

That being said, I believe the Pack Rat was a very cool coup de grace in your Kershaw legacy, and I am sad that this is the end of an era.

Keep doing great work, whatever that may entail.

A big fan,

Joe
