Onions?

It hurts my heart to hear this, but I wish Ken all the best in his future endeavors and hopefully we'll see that ever so familiar Onion logo back on Kershaw blades in the future.

Good Luck, Mr. Onion!
I'm sure i speak for all here in wishing you all the best!
Thank you for your truly artful and inspired designs.
Personally, i am saddened by this, but all good things must end at some time. I will continue to follow your designs as well as kershaws. Please do come back to visit!

I'm very saddened to have confirmation of this news. As well off as I am, my access to KO customs is certainly inadequate (which, I suspect, is more the norm than the exception).

KO, you're a brilliant designer in the custom and in the production world.

Outside of law school, I'm a philosopher/logician, and I often find myself in the field of aesthetics. I constantly encounter people with an extremely narrow view of art. Many feel that only paintings, sculpture and photography can be art (which is complete nonsense). Essentially no one I encounter believes knives can constitute art.

When this occurs, I pull up your personal page and show them your customs. I have many rather sophisticated arguments against the narrow view of art, but being confronted by such beautiful designs is often enough for them to open their minds. That's how impressive the works of art you create are.

Please participate with Kershaw's production in the future so the rest of us can afford your knives still.

I wish you the best in whatever you do,
Brett

This is some sad news for sure.
Will Kershaw continue to make all of their current KO designs?

KO is easily one of the greatest knife-related designers of our time. If I was Kershaw, I'd be sad.

I would hope so!

The blur is right near the top of the list of my favorite folders, and probably #1 in looks alone.

Looking back, I think that I have carried one of my several Ken Onion Kershaws nearly every day for the last 5 years, and I have grown to love them even more over time. I started with a Leek and now the Blur and Shallot are my regulars.

Today was a special occasion--I carried the Blue Bump for the first time in a few years.

Ken, thanks for the awesome designs. I look forward to more amazing stuff from you, whatever you do next.

Mr. Caswell, for as much as I agree with you about KO being one of the greatest designers of our time, and, for as much as I like your designs, I think your comment about Kershaw was unnecessary.

Well, I'm sad. :( The first Kershaw I ever bought was a Leek. Years later, my most recent Kershaw purchase was a Blur. With many other KO designs in between.

Good luck, Ken, with whatever the future holds.

I intended no disrespect toward Kershaw. I'm sorry if it sounded that way.

My thought is that KO is a great talent and his designs represent a sizable chunk of Kershaw's offerings. I can't imagine his absence won't be felt in the Kershaw lineup. In my experience, anytime your business looses talent, for whatever reason, it's sad.
Kershaw will be without new KO designs and to me, that's sad for Kershaw. That's not meant as a slight toward anyone. Kershaw will continue to make nice stuff and define the brand as they choose with new designs, and KO will do something great. I look forward to seeing what it is.

I didn't mean to harsh you too much.... it just sounded off to me. Sorry about that.

On another note if there is indeed a gap that needs filling in the line-up, I sure wouldn't mind seeing your inline clips and/or designs on some Kershaw productions. That clip is as slick and innovative as anything I have seen.

But, but.....I never got my Melee!! :(

Good luck with what ever the future holds for you, Ken.

And as others have stated, don't be a stranger and stop
in from time to time.

Wow, this is certainly not happy news from my stand point. The Shallots and Bumps are by far my favorite knife designs, so much so the only one I can make myself use is a mini-mojo. The MM and a leek are my only commonly used edc knives.

Thank you for the design you have shared with us at a price most working men can afford. Your talents are unquestionable in terms of design and ergonomics. Hopefully there may be a collaboration (wow I hate that word) between you and kershaw in the future on, perhaps, a single knife by knife basis. I certainly hate to see it end but I wish you and yours the best for the future, God bless.

I'm sorry to hear that Ken Onion is leaving Kershaw. The last 10 years or so have been a great opportunity for the average knife collector to be able to afford some great knives designed by Ken, thanks to Kershaw. Having come late to the knife collecting addiction I had a little catching up to do and have been lucky to be able to purchase what are my favorite Ken Onion designs, the Random and Mini Tasks. Thank you Ken and Kershaw for making these knives available. I love them.

Ken, good luck in your future endeavors, I'm sure you'll continue to do great things.

Ken, my first "real" knife was a leek, then a chive...sorry to hear about the split. Thanks for your work.

ps: did you ever get those customs of yours back?
