Online HOG Induction . . . . .

I'd be honored to be an apprentice inductee. My meager holdings just can't compare to what I've seen in this Thread. Man...

See I fall under that category, I just dont have a collection to compare. Being an apprentice inductee would be great. But how would that work?

Plus I wanna get to blade and meet everyone regardless.

I'm sorry, but that's just obscene.

Stick around! I'm about to give ANOTHER one away! Coming up on or around my 2700th post... Ahh memories... Most have new homes now, but I still like the shot of the 27 Skelly's together... :)

Two different angles here:

"Online Induction... Can I qualify?" Only one way to know, ask Boss Hog. Alternately, you can beseech your case to your favorite patron Saint of Wauseon: Amy-0, Blue Label, etc.. For the sake of a special deal on the AWESOMELY awaited Anniversary SH1, I sincerely wish each of you luck.

"Am I a Hog?" Well, two different answers to two different questions.

If you are an on the OINK list, then it should be an obvious answer to the question of official HOGdom.

If the question really is, "Does the group consider me a HOG?" Well, if you have to ask, then you are either too modest (40%) or not (60%.)

For group consensus of "HOGdom," it's not how many you've got. It's more about heart, behavior, and weathering the storm. (Maybe a little INFI usage, too. ;) ) You may have three or three hundred but the other HOGs recognize a true HOG as "one of them."

While it may not take having in excess of 50 lbs of INFI, I think (for me) it does require having spent at least a couple of seasons around here. Too many guys, I call 'em Shoats, come in full of pee and vinegar, buy every piece that comes up on the Exchange for 4 weeks or so, don't quite "get it" then sour and disappear within 6 months. Just like an "acquaintance" who, regardless of the long term outcome, isn't initially a "friend," an avid initial participant/purchaser isn't a "Hog" until they've weathered some ups and downs and shown their true colors.

A few with not huge collections but who are Hogs in the truest sense for me? KAAK, MyMindIsAMob, Flatlander, JWBirch, barrabas.

Guys with bigger collections but haven't been here that long... but long enough to show their true HOG colors? TonyG, Jaxx, Mori to name a few. (I'm tempted to add Gravelface here too but, heck, he has been around for a year this Blade! Not really a newcomer at all anymore!)

No way are the guys listed above a fully inclusive list in my mind but just a few guys that came to mind as good examples.

Any of the other comments? My opinion only... worth little except to me. ;)

This is my opinion. There are many like it but this one is mine. Without me, my opinion is nothing. Without my opinion, I am nothing. :p

How to spot a HOG (without regard to SR101 or INFI...):

Paddling_man that pic is tooooo funny! I could email Amy but I def want to meet everyone, car troubles etc have kept me from blade this year. too bad blade doesnt take kidneys, I got a spare lying around somewhere;)

See it's not about how many Busses you have, it's not about how many guns you have. Although you should at least have one of each. But it is about SCOTCH and CIGARS, and that my friends is what induction is all about. If you are not talking as incoherently as Jerry by the end of the night then you have not been properly inducted.

So you must own as much or more scotch as INFI, like this

Well Heck Cobalt if its about Scotch, Cigars an speaking in tongues;) thats me to a T! By the way I like the Highland park you got there, I like the 18 over the 12. The 12 was a bit smokey for me.

Hihgland Park 18 is one of the finest Scotches I have ever had, up there with Lagavulin 16 and Talisker 18. But I think Dalwhinnie 16 is a breath above them as is Murray McDavid Glen Spey 1996.

:eek: Gravelface!!!! Great IMAGE!!!!!!!! :D :thumbup: Ya made my day with this pic, caused me to call in and pay for mine, I'll see 'em next week! (I also got to talk to Amy :D... :o ANOTHER highlight of this cool day!!!!) THANKS!

Mmmmm I may have to put on some sunglasses:cool: and get my knives out in the sunlight and join this party:thumbup:

Paddling Man, I appreciate the comment. Some of us CAN'T make it to Blade through no fault of our own and in mylittle opinion is that the tradition of being an official HOG by way of Blade attendance should be honored. I thrive on tradtions and order in my life and hate change:mad: Maybe that's why I'm getting a divorce and my job may be going away due to the slow construction market around here..God's testing me AGAIN!!!!

I know how your feelin flatlander, I have never been to blade and have waiting to go for YEARS but every year it blows up, money and time fizzle away.

i agree with having to attend blade to be inducted.

even though this excludes me, ill live vicariously through others! :)

If the bossman would make you a HOG via internet I deff wouldnt say no to it. But I would still want to get to blade for a PROPER induction:thumbup: :D

I emailed Amy to see where I stand and if I am lacking how i can further improve to hogdom.

With rare exception, I agree that one must be at Blade to be inducted. But I do think that there needs to be some recognized group below “HOG” something like a “Cadet” or whatever you want to call it. For a person on the west coast (as opposed to the wrong coast:rolleyes: ) going to Blade is a significant amount of cash.

Although a slight chance is opening up for me to go this year, some day I want to ride my bicycle from San Francisco to Blade and if I do that well then I’d be a HOG.

And it looks like I’ll soon be fit enough to do that again. In the middle of my little excursion with my eye my girlfriend decided that I wasn’t the right guy. And she is right; I couldn’t see myself being married again so soon. So I’m looking forward to being single again and doing all the things I have not done since knowing her. Um… like a redhead:thumbup:.

So tonight I’ll be drinking to being able to do all the things I had given up to be in a relationship. This Fall.... Alaskan Salmon here I come!

I was at Blade in 2005, but had to leave (story for another time) before the initiation dinner on Saturday, it was okay, I had a pile of Busse knives, but didn't feel like I was savvy (wily ?) enough for Hogdom.

So I practiced my ganza skills, learned the current market pricing, got real good at sniping deals off eblay, monitoring the CS and the exchange, and eventually got over my aversion to whacking a $$$ knife into whatever I felt like whacking.

Needless to say it took me a whole year of waiting, watching others getting inducted, grumbling, whining, P & Moaning ..... till the Blade 2006 induction dinner, whew, finally.

Attending one of the shows, and the induction dinners is a pilgrimage, like visiting the York plant for Harley riders, or the Holy Land for Christians.

... just my experience.

HOG shmog! It's really nothing to get worked up over. (Unless you are trying to get a special blade offer). ;)

When you get right down to it we're all part of the same Brotherhood.

Whether or not I am a HOG or Piglet doesn't change my enjoyment of using the heck out of my INFI or the Brotherhood.

We are one with INFI! What else is there? :p
