Ontario Rat Model 1 Folder D2 Carbon Fiber Limited Edition @ Knifeworks !

I missed them the last time around by a day. I just ordered mine like 15 minutes ago. I was just going to get the nylon handle D2 one and stumbled across the carbon fiber ones! Perfect timing to order that knife!

I am so happy to have stumbled across that knife. It addresses my only 2 complaints with the RAT 1 for $20. The blade steel is a little lower end, and D2 is great! The only other issue is the handles are kinda cheap, and carbon fiber is fantastic! Only thing I might need to get is some new PB washers, because I read that the D2 models have stacked nylon washers :barf:

Interesting special edition. Notice the handle material is G10 w/Carbon Fiber top layer, still nice though. Not for me, but I'm glad to see them finally updating the materials on that model.

I'd like to hear comments on the quality of the ply CF when you get them in hand. My biggest problem with the RATs are the cheap-o, plastic handles compared to the materials you get on a RealSteel or a Tenacious family knife.

If you contrast the premium RAT against this http://www.bladehq.com/item--Realsteel-Knives-H6-S1-Frame-Lock--34108, it may not come out a winner...certainly not on price.

Counterfeit! :D (Sorry, couldn't help myself.)

I hadn't heard of Realsteel. Nice looking knife.

I got one of these in the first go-around and have had it a couple of weeks. IMHO, it's a superb knife for the price. The scales feel a lot like the Spyderco CF/G10 laminates on my Caly 3.5 in terms of texture, but OKC did a nice job of rounding off the edges of the big handle so that it's an extremely comfortable knife in hand with a secure grip despite the slick scales. The smooth texture also makes it a bit nicer to carry despite the large size for most pockets. They also give it a distinctive, deeper sound when flicked open than my zytel RAT --more of an almost wooden-sounding "THOCK" than a typical metallic sound, really quite nice.

I'm not really into collecting knives for its own sake (at least yet--this site is threatening to give me the sickness) and so got mine as a user. It has already done yeoman work on a lot of cardboard and other medium-duty tasks related to building a greenhouse out behind our house, and the D2 still hasn't required more than a vanity touchup.

Ontario should do more like these. The Rat 1 is a great design.

Thanks for the info. I've being carrying my Rat this week, and I like it more every day! this might be a nice addition.

Next: Utilitac II in D2 and CF

I'll take a Coffin Handle Tanto in satin, plz.

If you are paying attention Realsteel is a serious contender on the budget end of things. 14c has a leg above AUS8 and the 8cr stuff usually seen at this price point. CRKT's stuff is at a real risk here. That said, I would like to see a slightly upgrade Utilitac II. Make it $10 more with better materials and it will sell all day long.

They're phosphor bronze on mine.

Overlooked this earlier. Yeah, they're phosphor bronze on my CF/D2 RAT as well. Action is glassy and extremely quick.

Great to hear! It must have been a preproduction or something that was made with he stacked nylon. Excuse me while I blow a gasket from anxiety for my new knives to arrive (I also bought a Lionsteel SR2A for under $150!).
