Ontario RAT & TAK knives review

This is too funny!!! You people are serious!!! (Except for ChuckInOhio)

Thank god this is just a forum! I would hate to see you all face to face discussing these issues! Someone (I won't say who) might end up walking home with a RAT in his forehead!!!

waste of a good RAT! ;)

Don't know who said what about which knife/manufacturer, but my new favorite knife is the RAT RC-4 (not the Ontario one). I got it a couple weeks ago and it looks like it can do anything. But, of course, it's my first 1095 knife, and I intend for it to be a field knife, so hopefully, I'll remember to keep it lubricated to avoid rust as everyone seem to highly suggest.

Chuckinohio, the woman in bed probably ended up with the unwanted RAT/TAK in her neck, bleeding arterially, scrambling out of the bedroom!

Final comment from me: If you like it, you like it. Maybe because it's made from ATS 34, 1095, 440, or maybe it's because you think the guys at RAT Cutlery are top notch guys and you like their knife making philosophies. But we all have our own reasons liking or not liking a particular brand/model. Me, if it's made in the US and I hear good things about the knife from people i know, I'm going to get it.

Keep it real! Peace! (or is it 'piece'?)

(I just noticed that this thread has been here since 2008!)

actually i think cabala
mentioned some points i have to agree with.
i have had two Tak1 's and still use a nice Rat3 1095 and have several other Ontario's
sooooo... cabala
thinks the blade is not suitable for certain tasks ,is this correct??
and he has issues with the blade geometry???
well , not hard to agree with some of this. Rats are rather over built, makes them a little crude for slicing and fine cutting work, unless you are very proficient at these tasks.
you dig
use your own judgement , your own mind,
Ontario D2 is good stuff so is their 1095.
most real knife users will customize or re-profile their blades
buzz

" Survival " knife or any knife for general purpose must be, first of all,
from stainless steel on 56 Hrc max. 1095 steel isn't for cutting game in wilderness or preparing food ( because rusts too much and is difficult to resharpen in the field ). RAT knives are best for manufacturer because are very cheap for production and very expensive when you buy one ( but extra profit is outstanding ).
