Ontario Utilitac II - Best modern folding knife under $30?

What is the particular design characteristic that makes some of the grips "coffin" ?
The one that doesn't have a rounded handle (appears boxy with a more flat end) has been affectionately given the name 'coffin' by someone here and it stuck.

I know which one they're talking about from the context, I just thought maybe it was a general term that I hadn't heard before.

Both Joe and Mel Pardue have made knives with what they refer to as "coffin grips" over the years. That was where I picked up on it from.

I thought they referred to it as coffin grip because it looks like a knife The Undertaker would EDC :D

I dunno, I personally don't envision The Undertaker carrying anything less than a big old Bowie myself. Or for a folder, I don't picture anything smaller than a Cold Steel Voyager XL!

Haha true! He'd probably have an XL Espada in his back pocket.

The coffin reference on grips goes back to the early coffin handled bowies. So called because the shape of the handle looked like a coffin. Just do a quick google search using "Coffin Bowie" and look at the images.

OK, I took advantage of Knifecenter's one-day free shipping to order one of these. It's the only way my curiosity will be satisfied. :)

Arrived today... I love everything about this knife... blade shape, ergonomics, design. No blade play in any direction. Locks up tight as a drum..This should be at least a $50 knife.

Awesome! Glad to hear you like the knife. And I totally agree about the price. How smooth is the action on yours?

I did that, and I found the knives you are referring to. They look a lot more like a coffin than the Utilitac.

It is a very fine knife, mine arrived yesterday. But, for $50 I would expect an upgrade in steel.
