Ontario Utilitac II - Best modern folding knife under $30?

Fair enough. Bent tips just bug me because I tend to do a lot of the cutting either there or at the base of the blade.

Truth be told I've been trying to replace my UT2 anyways. Problem is I couldn't find anything that fit the bill with out shelling out big money, or being content with cheap crap. By this time next year I actually hope to be getting a first production run of my own blades done. The stars will have to align, but there's a long list of features that aren't really combined in the current market that I like, and I have an idea for a new locking and stop pin mechanism that I'm getting patented. I won't be expanding on it for some time, but it's one of those super simple things that make you go "Duh, why didn't I think of that". Only this time, I did. :D

It may not be directly related to the UT2, but I'd be lying if I said this knife didn't prove to me that Asian knife manufacturers can make a damn fine budget blade. I'd have never considered the project realistic otherwise, and have a CAD guy who will work for whiskey and pizza. Next years tax money will be going to making functional prototypes, then hopefully to Taiwan for full.production. At least I'm wishing for it to all go that easy. You know the saying though, wish in one hand.......

Beer rambling off.

Does anyone know where I can get a leather sheath to fit my round handle? Production or custom? Thanks!

Has anyone else noticed any liner or stop pin wear? I was looking at mine in depth today, and mine doesn't look like it's worn at all. Like literally none. I've never used any knife at any price this long and not had wear in the locking mechanism.

I've used mine daily since I got it and have noticed almost zero wear on any part. The only thing I did have to do was tighten the pocket clip screws, but in fairness I relocated them and didn't use Loctite. Loving this knife!

Mine also looks to have ZERO wear. I use this thing pretty hard around the house and outside and it's still in way better shape than a lot of my other folders.

The liner hasn't moved one bit after around 1,000 openings. Lock up is still as solid as the day I got it, and crazy smooth.

Why do I keep clicking on this thread, it just makes me want to buy one even more!

It's worth buying IMO. I absolutely love mine and it doesn't feel like a $25-30 knife whatsoever. Holding one in the hand, the fit/finish, good grind, great handle, and solid lock is enough to make someone believe it is priced much higher.

You all talked me into it. Bought the coffin handle, satin tanto today. Just under $25 shipped, will have it Friday.

I think you made a good call, bro. Please post here letting us know what you think of it. I have the coffin handled black tanto and it's one of my favorites.
