Has anyone ever forgotten or lost an item while out and about and didn’t realize it until you needed it? What was the forgotten/lost item and how did you adapt and overcome without it?

I bought a new axe to take camping last year and then went and left it in my shed !

I just used my Dumpster Mutt to split some firewood so it was no real biggie !!!

I went on a Two day canoe trip, at our first stop on the River to eat some lunch is when we found, out of the Ten people on the trip, I was the only one who brought a Knife and the only can opener.

It was one of these and I still have it in my tool box today.

Went camping this fall with my youngest son and forgot to bring a mess kit spoon. Had it with my stuff to pack, just forgot it. Fortunately we kept our heads about us and no one panicked. :D Fingers worked just fine.

We went fishing and camping in Michigan and I forgot the towels. Used a wash cloth and paper towels to dry off after a shower. Lucky it was only the boys on the trip. We did remember the beer.

WOW!!!!! Going out on a canoe trip without a knife of ANY kind. Plain irresponsible for even non knife nuts or gear heads.

HAHAH if you guys got stranded you'd be like the head honcho in "lord of the flies" with the only knife.

Went beach camping in Mexico, forgot the poles to my tent. Ended up sleeping in the bed of my truck for a week (had a camper shell, so I was good. GF not too happy, tho).

Left half my food home one trip. It was just an overnighter so it wasn't a big deal. I never hurts me to drop a couple pounds.

Anyway, I have a nice checklist to follow now.

One time camping with my father. I forgot a SAK or some kind of can opener. We ended up using my fathers old buck 110 and my old OD green Bucklite to open them up. It didn't do any damaged to the blade what so ever. Do I recommend it? No, but we stay out for 2 more days. Now I always carry a p38 on my keys and in my pack.

I did the same thing on a weekender this spring. I rigged up the tent fly with zip ties.

Went canoing/fishing and forgot the paddles. Walked to a house across the street from the put-in that had a canoe against the garage and the guy loaned his paddles to us (complete strangers). Wouldnt even take money for a deposit.--Went kayaking and discovered at the put-in I'd brought 2 MALE ends of a two piece paddle. Certainly developed some new paddle skills on that trip!-KV--

I once forgot any kind of spoon or fork. It was one of those trips that I had lots of food. Had knives of all sorts, pots, pans, dutch oven, just nothing to get the food from the pan to the plat or the plat to your mouth. I whittled a spatula looking thing and a couple of sets of chop sticks.

I realized I forgot my trail map, which I really needed because I was trying to follow a loop and there were many trails. I ended up hiking back a mile and half to the car. I figured the extra hike was worth not being lost.

That's the stuff - ingenuity...:D

I forgot to fill the Tidy tank (bed mounted fuel tank) before a long offroad trip once.

got halfway thru the trip, went to refuel and started cursing.

rolled the truck down the loooong logging road until the flats. then pushed it for "a ways". its a light truck (old mazda 2 seater). The one uphill section i winched it up by hand with a come-a-long, used the E brake and blocking the wheels with boulders while i walked further ahead to find another anchor point. Rolled it downhill for the rest of the way to the hiway, then hitched for 10liters of gas in the jerry, and then drove to fill up both tanks.

check your tanks! :foot:
