Howdy folks.
No, I don't use my folders to open bottles. :)
But, I hear about it all the time.
I've tried searching the web, and can't find anything!
How are you guys opening bottles with liners and the handles? I just don't get it!! It doesn't make sense to me.
Can anyone post a picture?

I assume its the same as opening it with the bottom of a lighter. Grab the top of the bottle on the neck. Put the lighter/knife on top of your pionter finger and use it as leverage to pop the top. Kinda hard to explain but I do it all the time with my bic lighters....never with my knife.

It would be a better idea to buy a knife with a bottle opener.

Yes, a better way to use a folder to open bottles.

If I don't have a dedicated tool, I use the spine of the knife, be it fixed or folder, like shown in the linked video - lever blade-spine beneath cap and over the top of your hand. you can leave the folder closed.

Another one:

Haha right on!

Here's a pic of my old Shuffle. The lanyard area also doubles as a flathead screwdriver.

Stop being such killjoys :D

Both knives I'm carrying have wear above the thumbstuds from beer bottles. There's something quite satisfying about opening a beer with your knife, and it's not like it causes any damage/risks making the knife explode in your hand. It's fun stuff!

Edit: oh yeah I forgot how.. Just use the spine like you would with a lighter! Leverage = magic

Please excuse the iPhone quality...

why beat up a perfectly good folder?
this is how I do it. :D

Real men just use their teeth, or knock the neck off and strain the glass shards through their teeth. (The rest of us use openers:D.) I remember a buddy who had a VW Beetle; there was a lip on the dashboard you could use as an opener, provided there weren't any cops around. Somehow we survived our teens anyway:o.

You guys got me wrong!
Im not asking so I can do it, in just wondering. I'd never wreck my knives doing something that I have another tool for.
But thanks for the replies!

I believe I have used every knife I own folding or fixed to open beer or soda bottles (right, soda bottles) I have yet to see this effect any knives adversely. for some god forsaken reason I like the fact that in fifteen years I have used an actual bottle opener less than a dozen times. my knives are not my first choice (gatorade bottles work amazing) but I don't avoid using them....
