Opening bottles?

At my best friends wedding they forgot bottle opener.

My 912 (the right) answered the call and all were merry

The proof ison the spine

If you have a knife with a thick enough tip such as a Hinderer or Strider you can stab a hole in the center of the cap and pry. They come right off with a refreshing sound.

My old BM 9050 had opened a few bottles, but I don't use my Rift. Don't want the scars...yet. I stick to the right tool or something of little value.

I've always used the metal part of the seat belt that I'm not wearing - To open my pop :)

I've used the spine of my knife since before I was "legal" to drink beer, it's never caused a problem with any knife. I gifted a mini barrage to a good friend some years ago and he's a real drinker, it now looks like it has custom file work on the spine-he loves it !

Since I started carrying CRK's about 7 years ago I quit using my knife, not because the knives are expensive but because the spines are rounded and make it a PITA to do. I never use the handle because I'm picky that way and I don't want to use a knife that'll eventually get a chewed up handle.

I guess it doesn't matter much anymore as I almost never drink beer but with the glass bottle Mountain Dew showing up at the store I may have to get a SAK to keep in the truck, NAH, I'll just use the seat belt or the tail gate ;)

Spine, handle, whatever. It depends on the knife. I think all of my knives have opened bottles, lol. I keep a bottle opener in the trunk of my car, but a knife is always in my pocket.

Yep use my folders all the time to open bottles or you could use a snuff can or a lighter or a seat belt os pretty much anything you have in your hand. But yes it's hard to explain better to see it done very simple just basically leverage.

I've seen the spine used quite a bit. Also seen the liners. I've not tried the spine, but on a knife with a wider blade channel the liners work fine.

I use the pocket clip. Set the clip side scale on the top of the cap and slide the bottlecap between the clip and the handle. Now position your hand correctly and just pry off the cap.

You folks are so common. Where is your flair? Your zest? (Likely the same place mine is, on hold.)

The other approach would be "champagne saber" style.

Alton Brown has a nice demonstration.

How important is the secondary lip? Would this work with a Meade that was bottle secondary fermented, but capped?

I guess it can't be that bad, might as well try ;)
